Look at that! That's what Beckerism is all about. Getting kids out there and teaching them a skill they can really be proud of.

Thanks Ben! We try and take the kids out as much as we can. This year is going to be epic. We're gonna take a 2 day 2 night backpacking trip and haul all the kids with us. I don't know if that will be a blessing or a curse! lol
Not mutually exclusive. I predict a little of both.
Many reminders of the war can be found in the area.Very cool. My father in law was in the Ardennes, at the battle of the bulge

He sure did. He wishes he still had it.Ahhh yes. He carried a Kabar into those woods before it was cool. A trendsetter!

I do believe that's a MSP Core 4 stove.Ok...I gotta ask...what kind of stove is that...?

Thanks for the quick stove response and the link...interesting reading. I appreciate the rocket stove feature and the disassembly design. From the prices on the link, though, that might be a little outside my price range. I do, however, have access to a laser cutter and scrap thin steel. Might be a winter DIY project...
if you need a similar item, but cheaper, you can also look at the Emberlit. They run under $40, and mine lies flat in my pack, but assembles quickly and has no problem throwing some serious heat.
knoefz
I mean... no doubt, the Core 4 is the bigger, badder, more effective one that we'd all like.
I was just thinking if someone liked the "pop the walls together and burn stuff in it" kind of stove, the Emberlit is a well thought out design and priced very reasonably.
That said, I do plan to get a Core 4 in the future because I'm totally sold on the superior design and feel it's well worth it (and frankly, they're just not THAT much more expensive, for the big upgrade in materials and design).
Lol... it's the BK-9 of packable wood stoves
You'll probably enjoy this thread.
oops... sorry about thatNoooo!!!! That's the thread that got me thinking about buying the Core 4 in the first place. Don't do that to me. I am weak and powerless. Don't spend my money!
