The Fire Thread

Place tender in,, push down fast, pull out. That's it. If you use a string gasket, as opposed to a rubber gasket, it may take a few tries.

So I take it that it works like a diesel engine. Compression makes heat and the heat lights the tinder?

I have one and it has been frustrating, the times that I've tried it. Maybe I'm using the wrong tinder? I put a piece of char cloth there, may have to use something else.

Had a bunch of fire pics on botofukket, may have to go there and take screen shots.

I've had not much luck with my fire piston either.
Tried various materials, fungus, homemade charcloth... Will dig the thing up again soon to give it another try.

And now because there's too many posts without pics allready:

That's a beautiful piston collection you have there buddy!
Thank you sir. I first bought some cheapo, that didn't work worth a crap. Never buy the ones that have a philips head screw sticking out the end, that holds down a flat rubber washer. A complete waste of time. The long narrow one probably works the best, but the red stag one looks the best. Also, the black one is made out of buffalo horn. I think I paid $75 or 80 for it. I bought the cocobolo lanyard ring for it separately.

Welcome Hard Knocks Hard Knocks , good to see you around these parts! This thread is for ALL who love fire! lol So post away!

Thanks brother! I always like cruising through here, lots of good folks. You've got posters with some serious skills in this thread, and you've definitely got those top-down fires figured out yourself  I'm going to watch and learn. Cheers brotherman!
