The folder you most HATE?

Out of the 30 or so Spyderco's and Benchmade's that I have owned (I only have 1 left), I hated the Benchmade Mini-Ambush the most. I thought the rolling lock with indraft sucked and it just felt cheap and junky. It was hard to open and the lock was much more difficult than it should have been.

I realize that this could have been a fluke so take it with a grain of salt. ;)

Emerson Karambit....I am not a big fan of the chisel grind, I like thier bowie and other styles, but not being big karambit fan or chisel grinds, its a two for. I have used it and I have carried it(was my friends so I could try) and I just didnt like it. Also the Large Xycar knives, they look goofey, there blade shape is goofey, I just dont like em.

Spyderco folders, I had quite a few, but I could never get into them. I do want to try the Manix and Military, but I could never get used to tip down carry again.

the camillus dominator i got sucked.

blade play out of the box

lock failures on more than one occasion, mostly from lateral impacts.

after tightening, any amount of medium to moderate work caused significant blade play to develop.

It's the large Rex Applegate/W.E. Fairbairn 4.25 inch blade that has a false edge on top that I had sharpened. It's a framelock that has SNAPPED SHUT ON MY FINGERS even though this is a liner lock. I sustained cuts to my fingers and has sat on my shelf for 10+ years.

In fact, I'll give it away for free, but assume no liability for this knife if you pay me for my time and shipping ($10).

Remember, I hate this knife and don't know why you'd want it. It has cut me and will cut you too.

I had one of those and it did the EXACT same thing to me!! I have long since gotten rid of it!!!!!!!

REKAT Sifu.

when i first saw them i thought "what a great knife, perfect size (5.5" is legal in Tx), the "lock of the 21st century today" (REKATs words not mine) this thing rocks, so i ordered one, to make it short and sweet the rolling lock on a production knife with a large long blade with a lot of inertia does not equal a locking system that works in the long, or really the short run. the lock failed on me twice, they would fix it, it would work for a few weeks, then it would stop locking. got it fixed again and sold it.

figured i had a lemon, and can ya belive it i was stupid enough to get another one lol, locked up fine for a while, then broke,

i finally looked up a schematic of how the rolling lock worked, and it relies on very tight tolerances to lock up correctly, and that along with the battering it took from the big blade i could see the potential for problems. i decided then and there that REKAT sifus werent for me.

the head of the organisation was also something else. they used to have a forum here long ago.

now i need to change my handle on BF lol. yep thats were i got my name........nah i didnt use to like 'em.

I don't know if "hate" is the right word, but I've been very disappointed with my Camillus EDC in AUS8A and my Buck Hilo in 440C.

I bought both of them because of the nice design, price point, and the steels. For good or bad, knives in 420HC do not appeal to me. I've had excellent luck with AUS8A from other makers (and even Camillus with a Heat), but the EDC I got seems to have been poorly heat treated. It just won't take the same kind of edge I expect, and the edge I can develop won't last long enough to be useful. I don't know if I just got a bad one or it's typical of the EDC.

The Hilo is even more disappointing because it's such a beautiful, elegant design. I really wanted it to be a decent knife. I can get it very sharp, but the blade is so soft that the edge actually bends and folds in use (and it's not a burr or wire edge). That was with the bevel from the factory, by the way. I've had to reprofile the primary bevel far thicker than I like just to get strong enough to open the mail.

I realize that the harder the steel is, the faster the tools wear when grinding them, but there is no point in using a better steel like AUS8A or 440C if it's not going to be heat treated properly. Might as well stick with the 420HC.

Camillus Lev-R-Lock,great design, ,inept quality control, :thumbdn: worst blade play I've ever seen! Bought it because it was so reasonably priced.Live and learn.

Kabar Dozier Thorn.

Bought because of the D2 blade and design.

When flicked open quickly, blade does not stop in the open postion, but continues onto the back of the handle.

When I contacted Kabar, the response was so rude that they lost my business forever.

Cliff, check your mail.
I'll take that Gerber off your hands...and fingers!

S&W Extreme Ops Karambit. I don't trust the liner lock on it. It's possible to push the blade back in place and not have the liner lock engage. That's serious on a karambit because of its shape.

But that's what I get for buying a cheap product, I guess.

Smith and wesson cutting horse, it had two blades 1 serrated and 1 plain edge and it fell apart while i was cutting open a box, 30 minutes after i bought it.

Gerber LST as sharpening practice. Poor heat treat meant it never got sharp, even though my skills were fine

At the risk of causing some outrage: *Any* knife with a linerlock.

I don't want to take chances with my fingers again, and I don't like hospitals anyway.

Thanks Cliff, I had the same problem with one I bought when they first came out & had the same opinion you do of it, couldnt wait to sell it off which I did...too bad because I really did like the look & feel of it.

Long time later I came across another one, one that had a lock that didnt fail with EVERY slight wack on the back, in fact I have tried again & again and can not make it fail...must have slipped passed their anti-QC dept.

Not sure just what Im going to do with it yet...may try to make it into more of a fixed blade and make a kydex sheath for it...???
