The Friday thread :) with Kit's blessing !

I am thankful the Guardian chose to protect His child, Brian! If you do chiropractic, a trip to the bonecracker would be appropriate tomorrow.
Keep close watch on yourself.....

Mitch, those danged steroid shots can be a trip, neh? They can work wonders sometimes, though, and I hope that's the case for you. Good luck with the broken bone, too! Be patient. You're aging, it takes longer to heal! ;)

I hope you get the job, IG, and it proves to be something you like.

The sun is out today, for a change, and I am gonna bundle us into the Tahoe and go for a nice ride into the Wisconsin countryside for the afternoon. Then it's back to working on an ivory handle. My first time to try and carve ivory, I'm finding it's a very slow process....

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Wow......sounds like you guys are having a bad day. Hope your luck holds and keeps worse things from happening. Good wishes for everyone for the rest of the weekend. Not sure what I'll be doing. Hope to get some shop time in.

Larry

I have the recipe at home but here is what it amounts to.

Pasta (the kind that looks like #4 lead shot) that is candied in a sticky mess that is frozen orange juice based.
Mixed with manderin orange slices, crushed pineapple.mini marshmellows and cool whip.

Most of the women think they are eating something that they shouldn't so it doesn't last long.

It has eggs, sugar, flour etc in the candied goo so when you look at every thing it is actually good food.

Brian -- glad to hear you are allright

When I get a chance I will post the recipe I know you will like it.

Dan, I thought Ibuprofen and Tylenol was one of the "no-no" combinations? Not telling you what to do, but if I remember right wasn't adding hooch to that combo the one that causes rapid liver coma??

To be honest, I think you need to dump the booze and add a nice narcotic like Vicodin to that daily regimen! :footinmou ;) :D Works for me! My "joints" lineup: Indomethacin, Gabapentin, Prednisone, Talwin (narcotic) daily, Actonel for osteoporosis once a week, and every two weeks an injection of Humira immunosuppressant for anti-rheumatoid disease.

I think there are 8-9 others for other crap......

Gee, I remember when I used to LIKE drugs.... ;)

Mitch , man dude.
the velcro thingie really works on the elbow. A good therapy for blacksmith's elbow is to put a rubber band over the fingers and thumb almost to the tips of the fingers and then push out gently stretching the fingers. The action with the rubber band excerises/strengthens the other side of the muscles that are used in gripping the hammer handle. Do this often it helped me.

Do you put your thumb on top of the hammer handle?

Thumb on top... How else does a fellow guide his blows?? I take part of that back; when I'm useing my heavyest hammers, (i.e. the nine pound short handled sledge and my six pound French square hammer) a lot of times I just gotta grab'a hold bests I can.

Here's hoping everybody's health improves :D

Glad it wasn't any worse Brian. Your truck might be OK too, its surprising what they can do with em anymore, then again maybe you can get a new one

This morning I BS'd with the farrier while he shoed my horses. Went to school and turned in some homework. Then I went a bought a motor for my new grinder. I got a Coote 2X72 with 10" wheel, got here monday. I bought a Dayton 1.5 HP TEFC high torque farm duty motor, 1725 rpm and I got 3 speed pulleys. I can't wait to get it all set up. Spent the whole afternoon cleaning and re-arranging the shop. I have room to actually set the grinder up this weekend, and work on some orders in the mean time. Haven't decided if I'm gonna weld up a dedicated stand for the grinder or bolt it down to the main bench and make a smaller roll around bench with shelves underneath for some other stuff.
Tommorrow I have to work all day and then in the evening I'm going to an awards banquet for the Ohio Quarter Horse Association. I really hate all the dress'n up and behaving bullshit, but I suppose since I won the state point standings for the amature reining class this year I should show up to get my award :)
Sunday if I don't get called to work again I'm gonna try to finish a couple orders and then get going on the grinder again.
Probably won't have much time for the internet for the next couple days. Hope everybody stays safe and has a good weekend :D

I don't know where to start....

Brian, glad your OK, hope your truck is too.
Mitch, Your getting old ...I feel for you.
IG....got my fingers crossed for you.
Pete, give the kid a hug for me.
Mark, have fun with your daughter and your motor.

I have no idea what I'm going to do. Like Mitch...I'm glad this weeks history except next week will probably be worse. :grumpy:

gabapentin 200 MG iBuprphin 800 MG 3 times a day and up to 11 Ty a day helps and they tell me not to drink

Dan...may I say two words....Heart Attack.
Do like a lot of old guffers....3 or 4 Aspirin several times a day and ignore the pain.

I expect out of your list of witches brew, the only thing you should be using is the Alcohol.

We sound like a bunch of complainin' old women :)

I figured I would die before I hit 30 , so I never took care of myself. I'm feeling in now. Everybody just has to keep kickin as long as you can. I'm about to post something that we should all think about.

Brother Brian, sure glad you're alright! Wouldn't do, just wouldn't do at all. Life's just to short to go under for a little ice!

Mitch, change your anvil height and use the "right" grip will save you alot of pain and give you more forge time. Sometimes a little creative reshaping of your hammer handles can make a world of difference.
Warning!: a baldesmith with a crapped out arm becomes just another stock removal guy! (do you really want that?)

Better watch them drug combinations!

Mark-you don't need my input, just take care my Brother!

This weekend is all "Mom" for me.

Wow, that sucks Brain. Glad to see that your alive and well!
Hang in their Mitch.
Fill me in on how that Coote works Matt. I may get one in a few months. Parents say (they're probably right) that I should test out the craftsman grinder sander deal before I invest in the Coote. I do the money back though from my folks if it doesn't work out with the craftsman, so it's not so bad. We also have two new horses that belong to my teacher's boyfriend. One of them gut the crap cut out of it with barbed wire, and the other one is either plain ol' weak, or lame in it's hind end. We think that it's weak since it took a few minutes for the horse to start acting lame. Anyway, I'm up at 7:00 to go to lessons tomorrow.
Oh yah, Matt, how do you stand the smell of burnt hoof (and for those of you who don't know, it smell exactly like burning hair).

Brian, really glad to hear that you're allright! Hope the truck is salvagable.
Mitch, sorry to hear about the various physical probs. They can be frustrating. I hate when my body is out of whack.
I spent last weekend on my back after it went into spasm Thur night. Still a little tight, but I am hoping to get back in the shop tomorrow. Hope your weekend is a good one!

You fellas are just hell bent on getting crippled up or worse! I'm sure glad you are on the mend, guys. IG, good luck on the job, too. You could use some good luck for a change! Rascal. Oh, and about today, I just took momma shopping, paid bills, and getting shop in order for company coming tomorrow. I am on my regular 3 day weekend, so there is no rush to get anything done. I will be making some bolsters for a customer that ordered 3 knives, and trying to get some mastadon ivory inlays cut out and worked on for another project. I am going to attempt to inlay an ivory inlay into a jade inlay. Only a crazy old Indian would attempt this, is probably what I will think before I get the inlays done. You guys get healed up, and BE CAREFUL!

MMMMMM gotta love it  To be honest with you I don't think it smells bad at all. I guess that shows you what a nut I am. There's just somethin so cool about a guy being able to touch a hot shoe to a horses hoof and know right off exactly what shaping is left to do on the shoe. Then a little more whittlin on the hoof and your ready for nails.

For anyone that hasn't seen it, horse shoes generally come pre-shaped. But its just a generic shape, they don't really match the horses foot. So the farrier/blacksmith shapes them with a forge, then checks the fit before cooling them off. The horse doesn't feel a thing, and you get a big old cloud of smoke and a nice uhhh "barbecue'd horseshit" smell that only a horseman could love :D

As far as the Coote goes, I'll be sure and post a review, and maybe some pics once I get it all set up. I agree with your parents though, do what you can on the craftsman first. Even for a bargain grinder I've got a ton of money sunk in it. $480 for the grinder and pulleys, $140 for a 1.5HP high starting torque motor, $50 for belts, and I haven't even got it running yet. Still have to get it all mounted somewhere and buy a V-belt for it. I really can't see laying out this much of an investment in it until your ready to start moving more from hobby to business. Least not on a college student budget.

Brian, I hope you're feeling ok today! Looks like the SUV protected you and took the hit itself, just like it was designed for! Those breakaway uprights on the signs are a pretty good idea, too, eh?

I'm sure the prayer of "Thanks!" was well received! :)
