Mike and I have been seriously considering the future of RAT and we figure we have designed just about every knife that anyone should ever need. Once we get the RC-10, Machete and folder to market, we will probably concentrate most of our efforts on mods to those knives instead of trying to come out with too many new designs. For example, stainless steel models, handle options, color options, etc. We are also turning our attention to the soft goods market since that's an area , in our opinion, that could use some major improvements in the survival market. This will most likely include designing new survival sheathing for other manufacturer's knives as an after-market option. There are some great knives out there with sheaths that really suck!

We are also working on some new survival tool ideas, but nothing nailed down yet.

Lastly, we are really ramping up the training side of our company. I had a meeting a week ago with two of the best outdoor survival instructors in this part of the country and we have some good things planned.

I understand completely your opinions and I support your choices.

I wish the best in your plans and keep the same quality its just great.

Alright Jeff!

Sounda like you and Mike have a good plan to move RAT ahead.

Best of luck for the future ~;-)

Sounds good to me! Designing "new" knives just for the sake of coming out with something "new" isn't always the best idea. I like the idea of refining existing designs. If something works, why continually reinvent it?

Love what you've done so far, very excited to see what's next. I've always wanted to see a functional chest pack for use backpacking/on the run, and been disappointed with what I've seen out there.

Is RAT going to get into the outdoor clothing market? Maybe designing some functional survival clothing..jackets/shirts/pants...?

Jeff,

Great news!! Maybe now you can send my wallet and credit cards back to me..... Please.

Seriously, you and Mike know your business better than anyone, but as an outsider, I agree 100%. As you said, all your bases covered with the different size blades. Going deeper may trap you in the dreaded and fearsome machine known as the "great knife hype" (trademarked phrase, $0.25/use:D)

You guys have a complete and solid line with blade ranges to satisfy 99% of knife users, of course you know we need to leave 1% for those who are going to bitch no matter what you offer.

Good luck in your new focus and direction, and I will patiently wait for the RC Lightsaber.

Gotta go, George Lucas is on the other line.... Something about cease & desist....

This makes me more excited than a new RAT model EVER could. New mods and variations? More survival tools? Accessories? Nylon gear even? Yes please! :p:thumbup::thumbup:

The selfish side of me say's, damn I haven't even got my first Rat, (should have it by the weekend) and you guys are movin' on but the sensible part says if you don't keep movin ya don't grow.

I'm feelin' selfish, don't change gears yet ;)

Just kiddin' I wish ya the best of luck in all your endeavors and look forward to a long relationship with you and your products in the future.

Maybe, just maybe I can try to get caught up on blades once they slow down for the switch, hehe

Good luck to you RAT Cutlery, Jeff, Mike and crew!

Oh, we're still in the knife business and have no plans of slowing down but our attention and focus is going more towards survival training and relative gear.

You nailed it Jeff....With all the models out, and to come, youve filled every cutlery need one could have.

Id like to make a request. If you guys are looking into aftermarket sheathing, Id like to see a universal fit cordura sheath for smaller fixed blades. Like 3-4.5in blade max. Spec-ops, blackhawk etc, must think everyone carries a Rambo sized knife. I 99% of the time carry a 3.75-4.5 in fixed blade in the backcountry. I love the cordura sheaths, but never can find one to fit my knife.

I look forward to seeing what RAT does for the exisiting models, as well as the soft goods market.

Now, that idea is something we can work on and a direction we would like to be headed anyway.

Music to my ears brother!!! :) Its something thats been frustrating me since I was in the Army.

We actually had Eagle do a prototype sheath for the RC-3 that turned out nice, but after they started to get weird on us we backed off from doing anything with them.

So thats what happened with Eagle....I thought I remember them doing the RC5 sheaths, or were supposed to or something.....

I like the Direction RAT is Taking , I mean you only need so many different style blades before you start making stuff just for the sake of selling with your logo on the blade.(tanto/sawback blades leaning towards novelty )
I love the idea of Branching out.... so many things need to be revamped with our thinking in mind instead of building something generic to cover the masses.
now if you guys could partner up with Ruger or another firearm company and make/help design a survival type 22caliber (LR) rifle , that would be awesome !!!!!
