The future of RAT

Man... Props to RAT cutlery.
When we really thought that these guys can't be any better than they are, they pull a RAT on us. LOL.
Good luck with the new masterplan. I'm definitely looking forward for the new knives and tools coming up.
Long live RAT.

This seems like the perfect opportunity to ask something I've been wanting to ask regarding your survival training:
This may be an incorrect assumption on my part, but why the focus on jungle survival training when an overwhelming majority of us will never go anywhere near a jungle in our lifetimes? Even the "woodland ops" course takes place in the deep south. Any plans to expand your teaching opportunities into northern forests, mountainous regions, and/or maybe even redrock desert country? Just curious.

I understand the firearm issue ,let side step that for a bit and look at maybe developing a Survival minded Stock instead ,let's not reinvent the rifle but the Stock itself. maybe model it towards the Marlin papoose or Ruger 10/22.
If I could get a Survival stock per say I have a pair of 10/22's all I need is a good survival stock to houses a few items.I have a few ideas rattling around in my head

That would be SICK! I would love something like that for my 10/22.

Tony, we presented that idea to a well known tactical molding company a couple of years ago and got absolutely no where with it.

That sucks. :thumbdn:

Like Tony, I would love to see a RC come up with a survival rifle. I would love a RC/Springfield take off of the M6 :D (I can dream..) A coincidence to read this thread, the other day I read an outdoor magazine and saw a small article regarding the LL Bean shotgun ( I think its with Sig Arms) MSRP was almost 4000. Its exciting to see what new products RC develops in the future.

We teach what we know so we don't bullshit anyone. If we wanted to teach a desert survival course then we would need to hire desert survival instructors. We know the jungle very well. We know the Southeastern woods pretty good also.

A simple 10-22 stock made the right way would be light years ahead of what's out there for a survival rifle. And there are millions of 10-22s out there. But every company we have approached with the idea thinks its foolish.

This is exciting for me as well. Although I can still think of one or two knives that I wouldn't mind having from RAT, I could certainly use some updates to my survival gear and I am really looking foward to seeing what you guys put out. Very Cool!

That's a great plan Jeff!

Best of luck,

on the other hand no best of luck! All your "luck"(read:skill, quality) has cost me all of my money! JK

You are absolutely correct. Light years.:thumbup:

Its a shame that companies dont take anything but ARs seriously it seems. If it was a Survival AR stock, youd have em lining up around the block.

Hopefully that changes someday.

I guess me being the little guy with dreams...reason why the 10/22 would be a good platform but if the big company dont like it ,I guess we can all just dream or modify something that is out there.. :thumbdn: all the tactical stocks out there and the target stocks do nothing for me... I am looking more geared towards a survival stock....... guess I'll snag a factory wooden one and get at it.

Very cool Jeff I always enjoy hearing about your future plans as it really shows a strong endeavor and I wish you the very best.

R.A.T

Did you guys re-design the RC-10 in the picture you shared with us a few weeks ago? I think you guys said you where going to give it a more of a spear poit to it I think? Honestly I hope you guys let it be, that RC-10 in the pic was freaking perfect the way it was.

I like the way you described your new "professionnal bearing".
Refining your knives and focusing on exchanging knowledge is really wise and precious in our time. Teaching is precious.
Most of all, you are following your heart in a business were novelty rules and this is really courageous.
This is the way classic designs are born.
(I'm always disappointed when Brand X or Y jump from designs to designs, when they could try to go deeper in the same direction and get a better product.)
RAT added value is working at a human scale and this is great cause your point is not to sale more gimmicks in your tools but to give/share the knowledge to use them wiser. People improvment is your first goal and providing them good tools is only a natural consequence of your policy.
I like that. So many brand are based on lies and hype...

I salute your courage and I toast to your health
And I wish you all the luck in the whole wide world !

Cheers
Nemo

I am happy with this. I was think with the knives that you have, there is little left needed to be covered. More gear will be a very cool thing.

I'm thinking the easy thing to do is drill out and the core the buttstock. Haven't looked but I'm thinking you could drill a long hole or two in the forestock and cap them as ammo slots. I guess the real question is what do you want in a survival rifle. For me, it's light weight, zero storage maintance, and light small ammo. All the extra storage is nice, but it'd only need to have gun specific items for me. If I can get to my gun, I've already got some sort of kit with me too.

Great update Jeff. Thanks for sharing your plans with all of us. I for one will be looking forward to any and all new RAT developments.

I'd love to see a new pack that is actually worth a S**t.

A Hawk would be nice, but I understand the difficulties.

You guys don't need a salesman do ya? I've been selling construction equipment for 11 years and owned a retail shop for 5. Would love to work for someone who actually cares about doing it right.
