I told the kamis to take care of back orders before wandering off on new endeavors and they replied they did not want me to run out of things to sell so they must put something new in each shipment. So, here's something they stuck in the parcel I got yesterday.

It is called the Garud (dragon) Ang Khola. The knife is 19 inches overall length. Blade is about 2&1/2 inches wide, 9/16 thick. The knife weighs 2 & 3/4 pounds. Fit and finish excellent. Hardening excellent. Bolster and scabbard chape are silver. Carving is very well done. The wood, I believe, is saatisal. Karda and chakma are exceptional. Scabbard is excellent and is equipped with a REAl superfrog.

Price for this offering is $225. If interested call or email. The kamis said they would be happy to make more so if anybody wants to sign up for a Garud Ang Khola please do. Give us 6 weeks or so.

It's absolutly perfect. Tragically I have Christmas presents to buy this month... but I have no doubt it will become a regular item, and I can get one next summer perhaps.

Fantastic.

"Oh, a magic khukuri. Why didn't you say so?"

Uncle Bill,

That is the most beautiful khukuri I've ever seen! I like khukuris to be simple and although the Garud is more decorative than your standard offerings I feel that the kamis reached just the right compromise between beauty and function on this one. At first I thought that the Hanuman Special was the best , then it was replaced by Bura's Banspati, and now the Garud comes and takes the cake. I know I may sound cliche, but I think that the sky's the limit for Birgorkha's kamis.

Thanks, Chris. From what I am seeing I'll have to agree. Now that I have turned them loose the kamis are coming up with marvelous designs and ideas and the quality just keeps going up. I think they must have heard that I am headed for Nepal and don't want me badmouthing them and raising hell while I am there.

I'll take it if it's still available, Uncle Bill. Please check your answering machine.

"Groan" "Moan" -flat wallet.

First came the Hanuman Dui Chirra

Next came the Bura Banspati.

Now we have the Garud Ang Khola.

Will we see the Ganesh Sirupati?

Can my HIKV stand it?

Who is wondering how many pints of blood to donate....

P.S. Dyeedoh Bill, did the wood look well seasoned or cured?

Awesome Ang Khola uncle. AK's are real tough khukuris, I should know, I have quite a few. I like the dragon handle. At 2.3/4 lbs. and 19" long, that's fearsome in my opion.

:
They just keep gettin better and better. What a beautiful Ang Khola!!
That's one that should be easy to hang onto.I like the fact that the Kamis pinned the handle too!
That one should never fail.

PS Since i do a little woodcarving as well as leatherwork in addition to the metalwork I can really appreciate that carving.I know how difficult that is and to get a finish like that is very time consuming for me.

Durn...no pics. And in this case, it would seem a real shame to miss

I hope everybody can see the picture.

Dave K's phone call took it away. We have another on order. Anybody else want one?

The wood looked pretty well cured and I like Yvsa was very happy to see they had pinned the handle. Smart move when you can't peen the tang over the buttcap.

You didn't forget to mention the silver mounts Uncle.
I didn't notice them until I read your first post about the knife.
I wish ( i'm sure like the other guys.) that I could afford one of everything!!
I would dearly love to have one of these too. That's such lovely carving!

I would really like to be able to order some videos of how all the different processes are done.To watch someone carving and getting that handle to that degree of perfection would be absolutely fascinating to me,let alone the making of a khukuri from start to finish, etc, etc.
I know what I have to do on carvings less ornamental than that one is.

Perhaps you could get something moving along those lines while y'all are in Nepal? Pretty Please with Beer on it.(vbeseg)

Khukuri FAQ

The karda and chakma that came with this rig deserve to be separate pieces in their own right. Exceptional pieces.

Yvsa, I asked Gelbu about a video and Bura put the skids to it. He said he had secret methods that have been passed down from his forefathers for 400 years and he would not share them with anybody. No videos -- at least not of Bura. This is another reason he wanted to move to an "isolated" area -- too many visitors were coming in and Bura thought some of them were trying to steal his secrets. In a way I can't blame him.

But with luck I'll have a healthy addition of pix to add to the 10,000 file.

Khukuri FAQ

I would like to get on a list for one of these also.

I don't mean to question you, Uncle Bill, but up top you said "Garud" meant "dragon." But doesn't it come from Sanskrit "Garuda," which are those mythical giant birds? For example, the Hindu God Vishnu often rides an eagle called Garuda. They are often a decorative device on SE Asian Buddhist temples (eg. Thai "Krudh").

To me, the head of the Garud Ang Khola looks like a lion (Sanskrit "Singha," Hindi "singh," etc.), because it seems to have a mane, whiskers, and teeth.

But that just might be me, and even if I'm correct, the kamis have the right to call it whatever they want! I'd buy it anyway; it's very nice.
