The Gathering is upon us - 2017 spring edition - sign-up closed

I'll make it one of these days. Maybe to a fall gathering. The spring gatherings always come up right at the beginning of lambing season, and I don't yet trust myself enough driving on any of the bigger roads to get there lol.

i sure did have a lot of fun last year. would love to get back down, but i have an april trip a month later. let me see what's what. cheers all.

A few of you may remember me......I'm a maybe but not a definite. If I do make it I'll probably be in a hammock.

Ahoy! I am going to try and make this one. Just me swinging. Worked really hard to get a good job and now I have no free time. Ce la vie. It will be good to get some woods time and hang out.

nice to hear you finally got a good job!
even better to hear you'll be able to show up.

I think I'm going to be bringing my bow and target too, maybe we can sling some arrows down range if anyone is so inclined

We would be in a tent if we can make it. We're in the process of re-accessing our overnight sleep system and are thinking of going hammock to help shave some weight in our packs.

they definitely save weight - but in my experience add volume to maintain insulation values, unless you have the funds to cover higher end options.
that said - i picked up a low-end 45* underquilt over the holidaze and hope to be trying that out this gathering.
if I'm not happy with it, I'll go back to my reflectix pad & sleeping bag under me and poncho liner over.

This is what we are unsure of. I know well need a hammock, tarp and something to keep us warm. My wife is cold natured whatever we decide, it will have to be WARM for her, or else it's back to the tent!

I can bring some extra stuff: reflectix, a spare hammock, maybe a 10x10 tarp.
etowah makes a good tarp for a reasonable price (I am a fan of their 10x12) - and Kelty Noah's tarps go on sale frequently.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone again. I will be swinging in the trees as always. I'll bring my recurve and the new toy for the gun range! :-)

Make sure to have an air mattress or even a sheet of bubble wrap about a foot and a half wide. That will keep heat loss between the bag and the hammock

On super cold nights (I've slept in my hammock in 0* actually, but I'm kind of crazy) I've done a mummy bag inside of a square bag with an inflatable pad between them. I was warm enough I had to open the foot box a bit. But I'm also usually warm so your experience may differ.

Vacation day is in. Should be there Friday. Yes, "good" job. By no means a dream job but the pay is decent and they take really good care of the employees. Only down side is I drive 104 miles a day. Working on moving but it takes time. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Unfortunately, for the first time since we started doing this, it looks like work will be making it impossible for me to attend. I regret being unable to see my old friends and make new ones, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. For the regulars, maybe we can have a smaller get together at some point?
