Hey fellas - I'm almost at 3k posts and have recently won a cool hawk in a give-a-way thread and decided it's now my turn to give something away.

I'm giving away an SDS skinner that I got from SDS as a part of the Pay It Forward thread. I've used this knife a bit, but it doesn't see nearly as much use as it should and I'd like to see it go to someone that can show it the respect it deserves. :D From what I understand this is one of SDS's early knives. It comes with a simple pouch style leather sheath and the maker's card.

Rules:
First and foremost - If you enter please have the intention of using the knife and not letting it sit like I did :D

Second - Anyone can enter.

Third, and most importantly, the Good Deed part:

Post a picture, brief story, etc. of something good you have done recently to help the environment, children (our future), people, animals, trail maintenance, etc. it can be as easy as helping an old lady cross the street  or as complex as building an animal shelter in your free time. I'll leave it up to you.

If you haven't done anything nice lately - GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING NICE YOU GRUMP :p

The winner will be picked at random on May 20th.

Her's a pic of the knife

In! That skinner would be a perfect blade for my wife to use this summer.

My good deed:

On Wednesday, I was chaperoning a school field trip to Boston. While touring Fenway, atop the Green Monster, a girl's flip-flopn sandal strap broke, rendering it unusable. Well, I took out my Leatherman Juice, made a couple of holes in the broken pieces, and hooked them back together using the split ring from my keys. It worked! The girl was very pleased not to have to walk barefoot, and I got to be MacGuyveristic!

Being an elementary school teacher allows me to throw a bit of propaganda at the kids every now and again. As Spider Man's uncle said, "great power comes with great responsibility" so I use this sparingly.

With Earth Day just a short while back, we got down to business talking about how we could each make a difference to make our world a better place. I stayed away from the big old global warming talk, but stuck with concrete ideas that they would remember.

Over the course of the day the school did a great deal of picking up trash around the school, learning about conservation (we had beekeepers, a man who takes in injured birds of prey, a woman who studies the black bear situation in New York and folks who study pond and stream life), and planting gardens. We have a plan to create a vegetable garden on the school gounds in which the families have the responsibility to tend it over the summer with the goal of using the food for their lunches in the fall.

Overall, I try to give the kids a sense that they can and should make a difference in the world around them. Is it a good deed? Kind of I think.

Foilist - I'm sure it was soooo hard to help a young girl in distress ;) Good work, my friend! I've had a broken flip-flop before and it sucks!

PB - I'd say that counts  Thanks for being a teacher and helping our children.

As one of only a handful of male teachers in an all girl's school, I'll admit it is fun when I get to be the white knight rescuing the damsel now and then!

That is awesome myright. Thanks for the chance.

The Knights of Columbus council I belong to has a Rod & Gun club. Every year we have our creek clean up day. We get together every year to clean up the branch of the Ecorse River that runs behind the Council building.

I hate blowing my own horn but I was involved in this too:

Not exactly recent but its the only one I can prove that I actually did.

No need to prove anything, Rupe. Great post - thanks for sharing!

Great giveaway Myright.

I will pass on entering, as it probably won't see much use from me.

However, on Thursday when I went fishing I did alot of trash pick up. A bunch of careless idiots left a crap load of garbage where the boats get chained up. I pulled a 30 gallon trash bag from my pack and filled it with their beer cans, bait containers, and a bunch of other sh#t. I hate dumbasses!

Oh well, Congrats on 3K, I look forward to 3k more!

I can't post a pic. However I have made it a habit to go out along the river banks around here and help the homeless to construct shelters, as well as on other camping and survival skills.

I'll pass on entering, as well, because someone else will probably use the knife more than me. My good deed is taking the neighbors' 3 foster children fishing or over to the rec center to play basketball on the weekends. Other than that I'm a curmudgeon.

Carolina - That is awesome, I love to hear about people getting kids intersted in the outdoors. I tried to get my nephew interested but all he wants to do is play video games and eat.

I will pass on the giveaway, but today being my birthday, I went over to my grandmas house. Her front yard was a complete mess, and I cleaned it up for her. After that, I took a stroll and cleaned all of the litter from Lake Erie that there was on the beach. All in all, a good day.

My cousin, who is a laid-off miner, needed a job.
So I called a guy I know that works for a major company in our area (who is about the only one who ISN'T having financial problems).
I got him an interview Monday at 9 am.

I got him his shot, now the rest is up to him.

Happy Birthday, Bro. Good work helping your grandma!

I recently went to an old folks home and talked to some of the veterans and other people.

There was an old German pilot thier. He was really nice and and at one point said,"Yeah, I killed alot of you guys." I didn't know what to think of it, so I decided it was funny. Even though now that I think of it, it's probably pretty bad. Then we talked about a man who served in the navy for many years and in the second world war. He was pretty intresting.

We also visited a women who've seen before, and gave her some flowers. She was doing alright.

I've been helping my grandfather over the past year or so, three times a week for a couple of hours a day. Mostly yard work, as it's is really difficult for him to move around. He's been teaching me a lot about roses recently, as they are his favorite flower. It's kind of sad, because he's teaching me everything that he knows about roses and constantly hints that when he's gone, I should continue raising them in his memory. Last week, I cut him a bouquet for my mother, and today I mowed his lawn.
Thanks for the chance!

Hey Myright, I just wanted to say Thanks for the great giveaway idea:thumbup: I'll pass on entering, but I really appreciate the idea behind this one!

Thanks Walter. Including myself, I think a lot of people get too wrapped up in life to stop and help.

Happy Birthday, Bro. Good work helping your grandma!

Thanks. She offered to pay me for cleaning her yard, and I, of course turned that down. I did, however, accept the meal she wanted to cook for me for lunch. Not to mention the quilt she made for me.

People really do need to stop messing up the lake shore, especially on private property.

I will pass on the giveaway, but today being my birthday,...

Happy B'day TG! ;)

Congrats on the quilt. As much as I love my knives, fishing gear, guns, and canoe, there is just something about a hand made patchwork quilt that just feels good. I've spent more than one long, cold Michigan winter night squggling (part squeeze, part hug, part cudle) with my better half under a patchwork quilt.
