ten-ringer advertised a griptilian with tip damage for sale. In the original ad mentioned extra pictures of the tip that could be emailed. I asked for first dibs and sent follow up email asking for a pic of the tip damage, stated if not too bad I knew a guy that could fix it and would like to make it my edc. Also asked the model number and let them know I’d be out that night but would be back to follow up.

Took the wife out for her birthday and got home late but checked the thread to see that it was marked as sold and the part of the ad offering extra pics was removed. Checked email . . . . nothing. Thought that maybe it was marked for me so I sent another mail asking again for the pic and that I’d like to take a look and buy it.

Saw that Harry Callahan had replied that he would take it if I passed on it. Shot him a quick email. Sure enough the knife was offered to him as if I never existed. Harry had already paid for the knife but is a real gentleman and offered to let me work it out with the seller first.

Sent mail again asking for the pic and that I’d like to take a look and buy it. Did finally get email from ten-ringer stating that they had sold the knife to the guy who originally borrowed it and broke the tip. Returned mail stating that this was strange as Harry had already paid for it.

Got mail back at this point with ten-ringer offering to send it to me and that I could pay Harry for it. Seemed really weird to me so I’m stepping out so they can send it to Harry who has already agreed to take some pics and send it to me at the same price he paid.

Strange deal to say the least. Posting this to clear the air. The good is that I’ve found a real stand up user in Harry Callahan, the bad is that ten-ringer seems, at least in this deal, to be on the ethical edge and the ugly is the whole situation.

I’m looking forward to dealing with more users like Harry Callahan and trying to steer clear of any others that I can avoid. Dealing with more users like Harry Callahan encourages me to “go gold”.

I stated CLEARY that I am in the process of moving, and needed the quick sale. I would have gladly sent "slugger" the extra pics but the email he sent took hours to arrive.HE NEVER TOLD ME HE WAS GOING OUT THAT NIGHT, AND I didn't have time to sit around while he nonchalantly took his wife to dinner, you didn't have time to email me first? So, ATTENTION ALL SELLERS, SLUGGER IS A CRYBABY THAT LIKES OTHER PEOPLE WAITING AROUND TILL HE'S READY TO DO BUISNESS. Money talks, BS walks.

so its a personal dispute between you 2 no bad deals/etc?

IIRC this is more for folks who have been cheated, ripped off, lost money &/or goods, something like that rather than personal disputes between folks.

but anyway thanks for the heads up...............

edited to add- i posted before esav posted the link, i dont know, if it was me i would just go on with life and find another 'grip to buy, i see 'em 4sale all the time FWIW, lifes just too short imho, YMMV though.........

nice to have your named dragged through the mud 4 nothing, JUST 2 BE CLEAR no one got scammed, cheated or anything, he's getting a grip for $35 and he's mad.

You should have posted your responce in that thread, instead of having us ping-pong back abd forth between the two. As SIFU1A said, it's a personal dispute, not fraud or theft.

I'm going to merge them so we can get a coherent debate going.

i did reply to his post! and yes, i moved yesterday, i was packing boxes on a uhaul, and checking my posts all day. thanks for the concern everybody, but its really none of yours!

Just stating the facts here.

I'm back home, didn't you mention that you had pics of the tip that you would send. I'd like to take a look an buy this from you.
Thanks

Doesn't seem like that much elapsed time from the post to the mail. Payment would have been within minutes. Not trying to stirr the pot . . . just stating the facts. I've bought a few other knives here and always pay promptly.

Didn't seem like the time to get in the middle when the seller already had another's payment.

Possibly not the place for all this drama to unfold, just figured this was the place to leave feedback. Never knew the seller was in a hurry for closing the deal. I appologize if you feel I took too long. Seemed reasonable to me with a quick mail and a follow up mail the same night.
Thanks,
Slugger

the forums wasn't the place to post this soap opera, and i guess i shoulda waited 'till i was settled at my new residence to sell thus making time less of an issue , but whats done is done, you're getting the knife, can we all move on?

I can see both sides of the situation.......If you are moving, the last thing you want to do is to whip out the camera and take pics of a broken tip of a $35.00 knife, especially when there is someone who is willing to pay for it without additional pics........you are looking for easy not dragged out.

If you are first to say you will take it, you should have the opportunity to purchase first.

I don't know.....if it was me.....I don't think I'd have brought this to the forum as it seems to be alot of time and effort over a non-expensive broken knife.......is it right you were passed over?....probably not, but don't deal with the guy again instead of wasting precious time and effort.

Exactly!.

Slugger, I can see where you may have been a little butt hurt over being overlooked by ten-ringer and you have every right to tell him so via email, but to bring a mans reputation into it here when NO deal ever existed between you and ten-ringer is bad form. Not to mention it was already being worked out by you're own admission between you and Harry Callahan.

Personally, I believe you shot yourself in the foot here. Hope you learn something from the experience. I always found thinking things through before you act saves yourself from lots of embarrassing moments in life.

Never knew the seller was in a hurry for closing the deal....

Most sellers aren't...Here's one who thinks two weeks is no big deal...with no communication...

Two weeks is not a big deal.I am not going to email everyone ,every day and keep them updated on there knife,i dont have the time...I dont want to deal with your attitude anyway...

...Your just sheep to me.

Sounds like Ten-Ringer is a straight guy, compared to this other "seller"... :D

... but whats done is done, you're getting the knife, can we all move on?

... the owner of the knife has a right to sell to whomever he wants. it is HIS knife

And that's the story.

Until the buyer says "I'll take it" and the seller says "You've got it" there is no deal and crying over the one that got away just isn't worth it.

Alrighty then, from what I’ve learned:

Seller’s can choose to sell their knife as they wish – fair enough. I think a first come first served plan works best but that is out of my control.

The feedback area is meant for posting info on fraud and theft – ok I can understand this. I read the rules to mean this was the area to post experiences good or bad as well as all negative feedback to not be in anyone’s for sale thread. After reading this I removed a comment that I had originally put in the thread and figured this was the place for it.

Over all this isn’t that big a deal – that is true. I’m a straight shooter and call it like I see it. The value was never a concern here. The ethics involved seemed sketchy to me, but from what some have said I’m wrong here. I’ll take that and move along. I think many would disagree.

I should have left this situation alone – perhaps . . . . I’ve had at least a half a dozen purchases previous to this Lan-Cay, CKRT, Benchmade, Tsunami bali kit etc. and have always been told the truth and dealt with in an ethical manner. I will continue to offer the same in return. The truth is never bad form.

I apologize if this was the wrong course of action and welcome your direction now and in the future. Like David Banner . . . I’m movin on.

First come does work but if the seller needs cash ASAP and can get paid by number 2 quicker then it is the seller's perogative to sell to number 2.

And, I do not believe the seller is under any obligation to tell the buying world he needs cash ASAP. It should be presumed that the seller is selling the knife because he needs the proceeds of the sale for some other purpose. When I sell a knife for less than I paid for it the implication is clear; I need the money....................

Anyway, no one got screwed here so why GB&U???
