Hi guys,

This poll concerns aluminum-handled Salsas and the Salsa pepper logo engraved on one scale. This is a new thing for Spyderco and they'll be watching the reaction closely.

Spyderco can go a few ways with this:

1. They can can keep the monochromatic pepper logo as it is now.

2. They can add more colour to the pepper logo (i.e. a green Salsa with red pepper)

3. They can eliminate the pepper logo.

Attached is a great shot of the Salsa pepper as it is now:

Well Carlos,

I think the monochromatic pepper scheme goes right along with the "sheeple" friendly attitude and blade length. This tends to be a great little, big knife that will comply with most any jurisdiction. So, I say keep it the same.

Plus, the ladies find it cute. Example: Pick up line, "Hey baby, have you seen my pepper?" Then whip out the Salsa and watch her reaction!

Yikes! When I saw the first photo of the Salsa with the "cute" imprint, I thought I was looking at a promotional favor from a bag of tortilla chips.

I am probably in the minority, but hold the pepper please!!

IIRC, the Ti Salsa will be sans spices.

As far as all knives go, less writing=better.

Tough call...

I've got one of the blue Salsas, and while I don't mind the pepper, I guess I'd tilt slight in favor of no pepper.

Even nicer: Inlay the spyderco symbol on the handle using the same technique.

(Though on this knife, it should probably be a little smaller, otherwise it might actually scare some people! On some models, that might be a good thing...)

On custom collaborations, it could be used for the maker's trademark.

Carlos --

I have a Salsa just like the one you pictured.
The only change I might suggest - put the pepper on the other side too!

The Pepper has kept me away from wanting a Salsa so far so I say get rid of it, and then I would probably get one (after I got all the other knives I have planned now though :))

i want a salsa, i am going to buy a salsa, i think that the Monochromatic pepper adds a touch of style not found on other knives in this price range, a colored pepper would ruin it for me.

If thyey are going to do anything they should offer it in more colors, hoiw about a purple one, it would be the ultimate "i am a knife nut and my girlfriend/wife needs a knife"

Hold the pepper please. A little too "cheesey" for me.

Power to the pepper!

Ditto the earlier comments about making the knife more non-knife-person friendly. I very much like the pepper and the pawprints on the Oceolot <spl?> pictures that I have seen.

As I said in the discussion of the Military Jr., I think that more logos like this would be a very good idea. I think bright colors and patterns (within reason now.. I do not want to see a Spyderco Liberace model) would help people carry bigger and more useful knives a lot of places.

For the record I would love to see blue Enduras and Merlins, green LW Progrips and Militarys and purple or turquoise Ladybugs and Jesters.

the pepper ownz me!!!

btw, thats my knife/pic :p

this ones better:

Leave the pepper. Kind of gives the Salsa a disarming charm in these anti-knife times.

Hold the pepper please!
I think the knive would look better without the pepper...
OR...
How about the pepper but nix the word "salsa"?
It looks a little like a promotional knife for Frito-Lay.

Thanks for asking our opinions,
Allen.

Though I think logos are cool!!! Until i can squirrel up the money for a salsa. I will not make my vote at this time!!

HOLD THE PEPPER.

I agree with shootist, the pepper looks a little too "cheesy".

P.S. Does the Titamnium Salsa have the pepper on the handle?

Jeff

What does "Salsa" have to do with a serious little cutting tool?
Nothing.
Of course it's just a name--albeit slightly tacky.
Such a cutesy whimsical name is just not befitting of this knife.
I could care less for "sheeple friendly" name and logo. In my corner of the world, if people are going to hassle me for a blade, the cute name/color/artwork won't make a difference.

Besides, I don't get the Salsa with the pictured chile pepper thing. Seems to me a more correct name would be "Chile"--for what is pictured.

If the the Salsa and Pepper logo must remain, I would favor the Salsa lettering to be given a fire red over the green pepper -- or how about a red pepper over a plain green background with NO [Salsa] lettering?

Really though, when I see this knife, the name I think of as purrrfect :) is BOBCAT --it justs seems so very fitting to me.

Hold the pepper please. I badly want a Salsa but with no pepper.

It's a little "Mickey Mouse" for my taste.

I say leave the pepper just the way it is! After taking my 2002 Spyderco catalog up to work and showing it around, all of the women thought that it was cute and would like to own one. Ditto for my wife. After showing her this thread, her first words were: "But, that's the main reason I like my Cricket and my Meercat, because they're cute!" If "cuteness" is what it takes to get more women to carry knives and thus open up a new segment to knifemakers, than that is what we should have. Lets face it, in these troubling anti-knife times, the more people we can educate and have on our side the better. And I agree with Lizardking, a purple one would rock!

Ps: In another "thats why I love my wife!" vein, last night we took my parents out to eat at Crackerbarrel. If you have never been to a Crackerbarrel restaurant, they have the restaurant side and a little "country store" side-more ways to get your money!:) Anyway, after eating my Mom loves to browse in the store before we leave. She found a little porcelean doll that she wanted to look at, but the box was taped up. Well, as my Father was reaching into his pocket for the Old-timer stockman that he has carried for the last 20 years or so, my wife pulled out her Meerkat, said "I got it" and had cut the box open and put her knife away before my Dad could even get his knife out of his pocket! :D He looked at her and said"Hmmm, that is pretty handy, isn't it?" I was soooo proud!:D :D :D

ARGH!!! That pepper sucks!!! Sorry, I'll try not to mince words. I didn't know there was a pepper on the knife - I did want it, now, not so much. At least the Ti isn't peppered. If we want to be creative, just ship the Salsa with a chili pepper in the box, or throw some nacho chips in with the knife, or ship the Salsa in a new box that looks like a jar of... SALSA! Sorry - love the knife, hate the decoration. If I wanted pepper, I'd ask for pepper. But if it must stay, NEVER IN COLOUR! That would be super cheesy, then we'd have nachos and cheese and salsa, that's like Nachos Supreme or something.

Death to Pepper!
