I like the pepper. I'd like a red pepper on green handle even better, if that's not a technical problem. I think I understand that Spyderco is trying for a whimsical touch here. With this one they want to get as far away as possible from the black knife/black blade I'm-baad kind of thing. More power to them.

I don't like pepper , plainer is better

But significant numbers like it, why not have it both ways? if made with design now, some can be made without, correct?

I guess it depends upon your target market. Personally, if I saw one of these "peppers" in public, say at a gunshow, and the claim was made that it was a Spyderco, I'd probably try to defend Spyderco, saying that they would never produce something so corny, unless it was for one of those "gift bags" you get at conventions, and the convention agreed to buy a whole lot of 'em.

I won't do that now that I know better, but I won't be buying one either.

Thanks for asking our opinion, but frankly, I think BF is the wrong place to get a reliable poll on the logo'd versions. These need to be polled in the general public where more non-knifenuts and more females can chime in. That's where these will find a more receptive audience.

Now the titanium version, which I assume is the one the ATS-34 is used on, is tempting...

I like the pepper.

As far as cheesy, yeah, maybe a bit. But then
how many people run around wiht Z-51 and Off-Road stickers?

Just got a blue, plain edge Salsa and like the pepper the way it is. Certainly sheeple friendly.:)

Personally, I don't really mind either way, pepper or not.

I will say that we don't really need this knife to be of the "tactical" look. As mentioned in previous posts, if it takes a little "cuteness" to open up a whole new market for carry knives, we need all the help we can get. As it is these days, all one-hander folding knives seem to be living on borrowed time as far as legislators are concerned. I really don't think the Salsa pepper logo will make the knife seem more "law-abiding" if an LEO decides it's a weapon; however, I DO feel it can attract more women and others who may otherwise be put off by the typical plain or black tactical knives. The more knife carriers/users out there, the better. Others can be converted to realizing the usefulness of having such a tool on you, and maybe less likely to jump on the anti-knife bandwagon if/when the laws begin to tighten more and more.

I would prefer no pepper, I prefer my knives plain.

BTW
Any news on when the titanium Salsa will hit the market ?

Hi Yog. I was assured they will be shipping early next week. We needed to do some in house refining.

The green pepper looks decent, but it doesn't really stand out or do anything special. Having a red pepper would be much better, it would contrast nicely with the handle and add a nice touch to the knife, as well as making it look more friendly to non-knife people.

The pepper is disarming...it catches you off guard and says "I'm cute". I say leave it and add more contrast.

I need a small something that is southpaw friendly...maybe next paycheck. Who knows?

P.S. Maybe add one that is pepperless for those who want one that way too. The true gung-ho collectors will buy both, just incase one goes extinct.

Keep the pepper! It is unique and fun.
Keep up the creative thinking Sal and Co.

Be safe all,
Mike

By the way Sal, I have a few ideas in mind that you may like.

I like the pepper and think the red on green would be a nice change from the usual black.

I say hold the pepper.

The pepper itself is a little cheesy. The "Salsa" logo should be kept, though. Maybe with the Salsa on one side, and the Spyderco bug on the other.

Besides, I don't get the Salsa with the pictured chile pepper thing. Seems to me a more correct name would be "Chile"--for what is pictured.

"Salsa" is a play on the designer's name, Sal Glesser. Sal-sa, get it?

It is a little cheesy, but if it's cute enough to make people think twice about being anti-knife "sheeple", it's worth a little queso. It just doesn't appeal to my tastes. As I said above, hold the pepper, but keep the text of the logo as it is. Maybe with the pepper underneath it, if there's space to make it look good. The logo as it is just looks too much like a freebie you'd get at a Mexican restaurant, and that's not the quality image Spyderco has had.

I say hold the pepper too. Very un-Spyderco like and just looks cheap and cheesey. Not necessary in the slightest.

I would fix the blade banging into the laynard bolt first though.
