The greatest video I have ever seen.

Very enjoyable video. Thanks for posting this up. I loved his blade forging set up gave me some ideas of things to make.

12 dozen in a gross, and he did 2 gross per day, and a cutler's dozen too not that wussy baker's dozen 336 blades per day.

Meh:rolleyes:... I do that in my sleep. No... literally in my sleep... some folks call it, "dreaming"... I call it "nocturnal production".

So you mean if I go out and forge 24 dozen blades a day for 20 years, I could gain that type of hammer control? Let me get started! I'm so glad we have some craftsmen still continuing these arts. It saddens me to see the loss of some skills found in these older craftsmen.

Jeeeez, I just did some more math, If he worked at least 200 days a year that is almost 5 million blades.

72 years X 200 days X 336 a day. = 4838400

I will have to listen again to see if you guys heard him wrong, but 336 blades a day is 1.4 minutes a blade without taking a break. That is impossible. In the video it took him far longer than that just to shape the blade. maybe it was 2 gross a week.....which is still a great turnout.

Stacy, it takes me alot longer to do something if I explain it while I am doing it. 2 gross I imagine was his best day ever, small parts like that is easily achievable in a production shop when you know what you are doing. Plus it was probably a 16 hour day which gives him a little more then 2.5 minutes per piece which is a long time. It's funny if you think he worked 8 hour days.

Loved the video. Thanks for sharing Sam. Had to smile at how he tempered blades. Doesn't he know you can't temper knife blades by color ;) Also, that folding Canadian knife was the bomb!

Very cool! That guy is the real deal and from what I've read about the old Sheffield guys, he speaks the truth.
I've also looked at a number of Sheffield forged pocket knife blades in person and have been amazed. Especially a forged folding dagger blade that Tony Bose showed me.
Thank you Sam!
