Off Topic The Hand Tool thread

Green Woodworking and Hand Tools

Englishman Harry Rodgers joins a merry band of Bodgers to ". . . cut down a tree and make a chair from it, all within one day. So that involves splitting out the wood, pole lathe turning, steam bending, assembly and Shaker tape seat weaving..all to be completed in a day." And have a cup of tea too!:p

So found this little 2 pound screwdriver today also haha. Not literally but it is heavy! I’m guessing it was to compete with the Perfect Handle screwdriver or the Irwin version possibly. After cleaning it up I found a faint stamp. “KeenKutter”, first KeenKutter screwdriver I have found. After I clean up the tip a little with some files I think it will be great for working with planes.

Perfect for putting a wrench on.

This was a find a couple months ago. I got it for $10 and the tag said “old tool”.

In reality this is a Stanley No. 10 1/2 type 11 Carriage maker’s plane!

I tore it all down and cleaned everything up. Surprisingly this plane has about 95% jappaning left on it. That stuff is super tuff!!

These planes are notorious for having bad irons in them. Because the cutting edge goes to the edge of the plane bottom it is a very short edge. After the first 10 years of sharpening the blade could be gone. On a normal plane you have inches to sharpen. On this plane you have millimeters. And this iron has plenty of room to sharpen. This is one of the best scores I have found! Thanks for looking!!

Only a little rescue here in the almost 2 weeks I have been out and or just out of town.
But I am excited about nailing this guy down and to see what I can gather to rescue when I return.

Is it HUMP Wednesday already?

We need pics of the logo on the chisel. That always helps with identifying logos.

Whenever there's a tag with nothing "old tool" on it my eyes light up, LOL :). Nice catch!
