As a follow-up to https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/ultimate-ultimate-gas-station-knife-contest.1592531/, we're going to hold a contest to see who carries and uses the crappiest knife on Blade Forums. This contest is open to all members, you only need to post a picture of the knife in use. We're going on the honor system here, so please only post a crappy knife you actually own and use.

The prize for the person who gets the most votes for their crappy knife will be a $50 BladeHQ eGift card so you can get rid of that crappy knife and pick up something a little nicer. Contest hosted by myself and @LG&M .

Contest ends when I get on my computer Monday morning, July 30th. At that point I'll make a poll thread from all valid entries and we can vote for a winner. Good luck and let the crappy knives flow like a river!

I have some cheap knives I think I ended up throwing one away as the blade was loose closed (could partially open exposing tip and some belly) but oddly locked up solid and was a lockback. I had 2 of it anyhow the 2nd actually seems solid I don't really use it but I let others use it. Then I have my cheap shameful kitchen set that I keep as I don't have better in the kitchen and I will need something to practice on when I get a sharpener. But I don't really have an entry just wanted to share the shame :p

Here's all I've got; Boker Magnum Backpacker. I've been carrying this since I lost my Spyderco Positron CF to the ocean. The fit/finish is actually not bad but the action is sloppier than two 14 year-olds french kissing in a pig pen. Also, i'm pretty sure I felt the 440A dull as I push cut it through about 20" double wall cardboard.

Look how pretty she is, my handy dandy Frost Cutlery fixed blade. The F&F is some of the worst I have ever seen, the blade steel is probably 420j or whatever they used in their sweat shops that day.

That's the intent. I suppose someone could poach an ugly knife from Google images but that would just bring bad karma.
yeah that thought crossed my mind, but so did someone just typing about their junk knife to get 50 bucks for free. free stuff without detailed rules often brings out some of the worst in people and the worst people as well.

to clarify I am not participating. it a great nice deal for someone who really needs it and I appreciate y'all doing it. just thought I'd cut to the chase and try to chase off anyone trying to abuse it.

VERY COOL THREAD!

I’m not competing. Just here for fun. I’d love to see the GC go to someone who could use a kick start to their collection.

This is my now retired Spyderco Persistence. It was my daily carry for a couple years, and I used it a LOT.

The blade centering is wrecked.

The action is very gritty. Blade play? Yeah...

It’s flagged fully left in that picture.

It also has drop dings around the G-10.

But...

I got my money's worth out of that knife! The damage done is largely correctable by reassembling it. I choose not to. It’s beautiful with the scars. The blade isn’t corroding, and I touched up the edge before retiring it. Lock up is still rock solid, so it’s usable in the event that a shadowy alien conspiracy group steals all of my other folders and leaves only that one. Or... whatever. Hmmm... that feels like a straight-to-Netflix movie seed. We’ll call this film... “Persistence!”

What's the definition of crappy for this thread ?

I mean if someone here owns and carries it, can it really be that crappy ?
Sure it may be a cheap knife, but they must not consider it crappy or they wouldn't use it.

This thread is a great idea for someone who needs a better knife than they've got, but I'm not sure there's anyone to participate that really does need it.

big lots lock back folder. been using every day for the last 4 years on the loading dock . its been run over by trucks, dropped in the compacter ,dropped hundreds of times ,thrown to coworker and dropped .logo plate fell off two years ago . Lock pin is falling out as can be seen it has to be knocked back in with side of table frequently. rust and dents are all part of the charm . for what I paid $3.00 I think I got my moneys worth . would be nice to have a nicer knife to open things

So whats your point? If you object, dont participate, if you think its against some rules, report it.

Seems like a great thread/contest and should be a load of fun. Let the crap flow!

I understand your point...not too likely that a BF member would have ONLY a crappy knife, but you never know.

In terms of what defines "crappy", we'll let the viewing member decide as they "like" the crap :D.

Could make it a poll on Monday. Pick three yourself and let majority vote on what everybody thinks is the crappiest EDC that could use a refresh.

That sounds like a cool idea. A final vote would be more definitive than "likes". Sounds like a plan unless we hit a limit for the number of options in a poll...I've never made a poll so I'll have to check it out.

Edit: Looks like no limit to poll options, I've edited the first post to indicate a vote following the close of competition.

Yup.

And let's not underestimate the number of folks who carry a knife they consider crappy because they can't afford/have no convenient access to any better. No shame in that.

This is both generous and funny. Wish I could in good conscience participate myself. :) I own at least one abysmally crappy knife but I don't use it.

Usually by the time a knife is judged crappy it’s in the garbage bin, but if I look around I’ll find something hideous I’m sure.
