The History of Porch Generosity

I started posting here back in January and have massively enjoyed the relationships as well as the knives. But I certainly did not expect the generosity. I won a 47 pattern Case Stockman from @JohnDF in his SciFi GAW a day after I added “Case 47 Stockman” to my eBay search bank. @CHNeal gave a mint Buck 303 to my son Sam in his GAW and it blew my sons mind!

And then Jeff, @Amir Fleschwund , sends me a perfect Schrade 293Y just because I commented on how much I liked his.

AND THEN...I won the never ending GAW Box and my whole crew got to pick a knife.

Needless to say...COVID BE DAMNED...2020 has been a great year for me.

That has me thinking. I’d love to see all of the past knives that people have won in GAW’s or have just gifted to each other. It could serve as a nice archive of sorts if it takes off.

I’ll start with two of mine and add the others later.

Happy posting, and hopefully this helps generate even more generosity on the porch!

Jon

The box-o-knives yielded an orange delrin peanut for Joseph an Imperial jack knife for Livie a Remington trapper for Marcie and a huge Condor chopper for Sam who has chopped half the woods with that thing.

Here was Sam’s unboxing of Clay’s 303.

4 gems there Harry! You have enough for a BF Legends drawer I’m sure! They are all stunners, but the stag Barlow takes the cake for me. :D

Jon this is a nice idea for a thread. I know a lot of the long time members here on the Porch might remember this as what we affectionately referred to as "Shenanigans"! :D What we would do is contact someone that we knew had the address of the person that we were gifting to and then send the surprise gift, totally catching the member off guard!

I'll have to think long and hard on this one, because I don't want to leave anyone out. ;) So I will add more later because I have received a lot generosity and kindness from the members here on the porch. Both in the form of gifts and by winning GAWs. Since my good friend Harry Old Engineer Old Engineer so graciously posted already, I'll start by proudly show y'all what he surprised me with in return. Totally unexpected I received this beautiful Arno Bernard Galago with Wart Hog Tusk handles in the mail! :D

That’s beautiful Ron! Great selection Harry

These 4 all came from the forums, there are / were more but either I cannot find them or found myself neglecting them and passed them along via the Traditional box GAW.

The GEC h20 is one of my all time favorite belt knives, it was passed along to me by Wurrwulf.

The Grohmann mini Russell came from Campbellclanman
And while I have not carried it much lately it is a wonderful knife with a more comfortable grip than any ergonomically shaped knife I've ever held.

The case toothpick came from the box GAW and while I can't remember who contributed it, I can wholeheartedly thank everyone who has contributed to that box.

Last but not least is the BSA Case half whittler that came from the Memorial Scout knife GAW abbydaddy hosts in honor of his late brother.
Case found out about this GAW and was gracious enough to send a few of them for him to give away.
Beyond just really liking the knife it has a very special meaning and I intend to always have it.

Theres also a Gerber LST ultralight PWatkins sent to me which I lost and replaced, I later found it and gave it to my dad who loves it.
So his generosity has exposed two people to a wonderful little knife model.

And theres the knives seas165 sent me in contribution to the Traditional box GAW when I started it back up, without the knives he contributed there may not have been enough to get the ball rolling and to this iterations 31st recipient.

There are also knives I have purchased for great prices from fellow forum members, and while I may not remember all names I hope those generous members know I'm still appreciative.

Love seeing those for and hearing those stories. I love that half whit. I’m sure @abbydaddy has some good stories and pics he could contribute!

Here's one of most my prized possessions. I won it in a GAW from Carl @jackknife . It has been on many adventures, as you may have read in Carl's wonderful stories! It is so nice, but needed a jacket, so I had one made for it.

That was a great giveaway :) Nice jacket Glenn

I've had so much generosity here, that I reckon I could break the thread! ;)

The very first knife I was gifted here was a Ka-Bar 'Peanut' from Pete @Stich2442 :) This was Pete's trusty side-kick, and it's a shame we lost the first 'Workout' thread, because it contained many of Pete's photos of it in use

My first giveaway win was a small Case Stockman generously gifted by @Thalestin

My first GEC was a gift from my dear friend Duncan @Campbellclanman , who like Pete, took it out of his pocket to send to me :)

I have been the winner of several GAW over the years. From KBA (Brett) came this wonderful, vintage Schrade-Walden 294 Trapper Jack (shown with some local boys who liked to pitch). From Primble’s great Kentucky Derby GAW came the Case 5318 Stag Stockman - my ceremonial occasion carry. Most recently this past May from Tim (pmek5) came this ultra-sharp GEC Office Knife (which gets used daily on my desk). I thank the porch and especially these gents for their generosity. OH

What a cool hatchet. It would be great to see more hatchets accompanying knives on the forum now and again. Really great jacket as well:thumbsup:

I just won this in glennbad's gaw. He gave away FIVE forum knives.

So good. There was a day where I could have been a contender in a baseball card/knife thread.

Great thread. There are certainly many generous members here.

I've only been hangin out on the porch for a little over a year, but I was fortunate to be on the receiving end of one of Jack Black Jack Black 's many GAWs. I received this sweet Ebony Big'Un Lamb as a prize in Jack's 100k Likes GAW. Of course when you win one of Jack's GAWs, the knife is generally accompanied with various Sheffield related SWAG which makes it all the more exciting. This one was even more generous in the trials and tribulations Jack went through to get the prizes shipped during the Covid restrictions.

I probably don't carry it as much as I should, I'll have to remedy that. Thanks Jack!

I’ll play. I too have benefited greatly from porch generosity. I’ve given back but not what I’ve received. Guess I should work on remedying that. Anyway....

The top one and the case Zulu I won in a gave away from @r redden.

The case copperhead is a really cool as ground blade knife. It was a gift from @r redden. It was gifted because I don’t hide my Christianity. Randy is one of the good guys around here. I’ve seen him give away so many knives to so many people.

Next is a case bose ebony cattle knife. That was a gift from a member who asked me not to make a big deal of it when I was seeking one. No amount of telling him I could afford it changed his mind. My pastor once told me I had a problem accepting gifts and he’s right. I still appreciate this gift and I hope he sees it and knows I still remember.

The last one, ebony 48, was actually sold to me by @Jsega51. He put it up for sale and I took it. Paid him and he shipped. During transit, I found out my wife was pregnant and the next day, our home flooded. 56” of rain in 3 days and the river just couldn’t handle it. Had 12” in the house. Once the knife finally arrived, I took a pic, not thinking, and texted Jake. I had told him it would be late as the flooding had mail held up. Anyway, he said “dude is that all your house in the pile behind that?” I had taken the pic out front and all our stuff was In a huge pile. He sent me the money back and wouldnt accept the knife. Threaten to drive here and kick my behind if I sent it back lol. After I got all squared away and insurance paid up, I offered to pay him but he wouldn’t accept. I gained a knife and a good friend. Jake and I still text sometimes. This one is earmarked for my son since it was given to me at a tough time in life and finding he was coming was part of that. We weren’t trying for one. But when it’s all said and done, I got a new house, a new son, a new knife and a new friend and it reminds me of all that.

The marbles electricians knife was what I selected out of one of the early rounds of the never ending giveaway box. Really neat knife. And I love orange knives lol
