The History of Porch Generosity

I have another knife to add. Not forgotten during my first post, but I couldn’t find my notes. This Camillus Stormin Norman tribute knife was GAW on the porch by KrisNZ back in February 2014. It arrived in early March and has an honored place among my military souvenirs. Thanks again Kris, it is being taken care of. OH

Love seeing those for and hearing those stories. I love that half whit. I’m sure abbydaddy abbydaddy has some good stories and pics he could contribute!

My trouble is that I have been the beneficiary of so much generosity that I will have a lot to write. Also, I have gifted some of the gifts that I received on to new owners as well, which means that I can't really do a full accounting. But I will do my best. I will try to write some of my good fortune up.

Right now I have everything still boxed up from when I was getting ready for potential evacuation from the wildfires, but I was fortunate and never had to actually evacuate.

Wow! I’d order popcorn and stay for the credits if you wanted to continue this show! :D

I'll post some more pics below, but honestly, I've received a LOT of kindness :)

Great thread. There are certainly many generous members here.

I've only been hangin out on the porch for a little over a year, but I was fortunate to be on the receiving end of one of Jack Black Jack Black 's many GAWs. I received this sweet Ebony Big'Un Lamb as a prize in Jack's 100k Likes GAW. Of course when you win one of Jack's GAWs, the knife is generally accompanied with various Sheffield related SWAG which makes it all the more exciting. This one was even more generous in the trials and tribulations Jack went through to get the prizes shipped during the Covid restrictions.

I probably don't carry it as much as I should, I'll have to remedy that. Thanks Jack!

I’ll play. I too have benefited greatly from porch generosity. I’ve given back but not what I’ve received. Guess I should work on remedying that. Anyway....

The top one and the case Zulu I won in a gave away from @r redden.

The case copperhead is a really cool as ground blade knife. It was a gift from @r redden. It was gifted because I don’t hide my Christianity. Randy is one of the good guys around here. I’ve seen him give away so many knives to so many people.

Next is a case bose ebony cattle knife. That was a gift from a member who asked me not to make a big deal of it when I was seeking one. No amount of telling him I could afford it changed his mind. My pastor once told me I had a problem accepting gifts and he’s right. I still appreciate this gift and I hope he sees it and knows I still remember.

The last one, ebony 48, was actually sold to me by @Jsega51. He put it up for sale and I took it. Paid him and he shipped. During transit, I found out my wife was pregnant and the next day, our home flooded. 56” of rain in 3 days and the river just couldn’t handle it. Had 12” in the house. Once the knife finally arrived, I took a pic, not thinking, and texted Jake. I had told him it would be late as the flooding had mail held up. Anyway, he said “dude is that all your house in the pile behind that?” I had taken the pic out front and all our stuff was In a huge pile. He sent me the money back and wouldnt accept the knife. Threaten to drive here and kick my behind if I sent it back lol. After I got all squared away and insurance paid up, I offered to pay him but he wouldn’t accept. I gained a knife and a good friend. Jake and I still text sometimes. This one is earmarked for my son since it was given to me at a tough time in life and finding he was coming was part of that. We weren’t trying for one. But when it’s all said and done, I got a new house, a new son, a new knife and a new friend and it reminds me of all that.

The marbles electricians knife was what I selected out of one of the early rounds of the never ending giveaway box. Really neat knife. And I love orange knives lol

These are just the member gifts from here. Thanks again everyone!

Wow! What a special pile of knives! I love the story surrounding the 48, and the knife itself is a phenomenal piece.

I'll post some more pics below, but honestly, I've received a LOT of kindness :)

So cool Jack! The proverb is so true, “The generous themselves will be blessed!”

Your pictures illustrate how generosity and thoughtfulness elevate “inexpensive” items, as well as the items that came with loftier price tags.

Thank you very much Jon :)

While I can’t really contribute here, it’s wonderful to read about all the of the stories, comradery, and generosity in this thread - great idea.

Thank you Jon for starting this thread. It’s tough right now to find kindness and togetherness... so this is a nice little pocket of sunshine.

Cheers to everyone here and I look forward to reading more!

Ah, what an amazing read. Though I can’t contribute myself, I couldn’t read all that and not say something! Splendid. It’s fun to see all of you taking care of each other like that. Keep the responses coming! The world is too cold a place to not celebrate such things.

I won all these beauties in gaws over the years....given a few away myself and done a couple of swapsies..

How utterly remiss of me to forget the greatest giveaway there's ever been! A Wizard should know better!
It was a monumental challenge.
Im sure theres a link to Jacks journal of the mission...relentlessly plodding through the icy wastes of Yorkshire and venturing far into the bleak, forgotten valleys of the West Midlands....he took us on a quest that went on and on and on ...and on...never ceasing for weeks and months....with only a small selection of pubs, inns, alehouses and hostelries ....with only a few different brews to sup at each place....and meagre fayre of pork pies , chip butties and scones (with jam and cream of course) to choose from.
He returned time after time empty handed and all but exhausted from the bus ride.
Never once did his mind stray from the mission. He encountered strange and sometimes scary people....including Vikings at one stage if I remember rightly
Then ....when hope was all but gone...
20201002-151406.jpg

I received the vintage G Adams ....which now takes pride of place in my kitchen...and would he accept payment as per the rules of the quest? Like 'eck E'would!
Thank you again Jack Black Jack Black ..I am proud to call you my friend.x:thumbsup::D
