Maybe that`s what has happend, glad i live by the sea...But, there`s one issue to that thought; i didnt just order one B-8 but two pieces and a MOABOLO (in a bottle)...

Well, got a message from Busse today saying that this is not what happend here; not possible to fit a larger knife into a bottle...

Thanks Stumpy!

:thumbup::D:thumbup:

I have no rush- It will arrive, sooner or later, no problemo. As said before; i`m happy with the release of the Basic-8.:D

Yeah--just knowing it's a done deal and the next step is receiving your knives is comforting in itself.

Now get this Viking his blades!!!

(Tom too. :D)

Well, you might be okay with the wait, but I can't start the HOG BAIT chant full bore until everyone gets their LIGHT BAIT.

:D:D:D

Stumpy; I`m okay, no worries- honestly.:D Only issue right now is what sheath to use for my B-8; allready got a Spes-Ops, but i think that i might need a shoulder rig...Anyone with suggestions?

Got the new Spec Ops Combat Master Long today. Thought I could just swap the Kydex inserts between the two, but noooooo. Apparently they've changed the Kydex retention scheme from a Chicago screw to Velcro on the back of the insert. :grumpy:

So I had to fit both knives to their new sheaths. I taped the spine and edge of both knives with three layers of painter's tape, then heated the Kydex at 325 degrees in the toaster oven to soften it. Upon removing the Kydex from the oven, I quickly put the knife into the sheath, then put it between two layers of foam anti-fatigue mats, and then added a heavy wood cutting board and stood on it. It worked pretty well, though not as good as the local Kydex benders can do. All I had to do after that was to heat the mouths of the Kydex with the hair dryer so I could flare them slightly.

They fit nicely without any rattling, but also without too much pressure either. The tips here to use the three layers of painter's tape worked perfectly!

So here's my B8 LE #777 in it's new home (along with my TGLB too). Have Kydex coming from Al Welke for my #77 as well. However, it will be the B8 rig shown here that will join me up in the Boundary Waters at the end of May.

Great work, and great info. Thanks!

My only comment, as a polymer scientist and pedant, is that the plastic liner in a Spec Ops sheath may not be the same plastic as 'Kydex'. Therefore, the conditions of your mod are likely to be only true for a Spec Ops insert, but not necessarily the same for any other 'plastic' sheath material.

RG,
You make a good point. However, it molds just like Kydex, and even if I didn't know better, I'd say it was. But the proof is in what the Spec Ops website says:

"Unique "MULTI-FIT" KYDEX® liner securely holds most blade widths and thicknesses (removable for cleaning)."

;)
