Here's some earlier discussion...

Got the new Spec Ops Combat Master Long today. Thought I could just swap the Kydex inserts between the two, but noooooo. Apparently they've changed the Kydex retention scheme from a Chicago screw to Velcro on the back of the insert. :grumpy:

So I had to fit both knives to their new sheaths. I taped the spine and edge of both knives with three layers of painter's tape, then heated the Kydex at 325 degrees in the toaster oven to soften it. Upon removing the Kydex from the oven, I quickly put the knife into the sheath, then put it between two layers of foam anti-fatigue mats, and then added a heavy wood cutting board and stood on it. It worked pretty well, though not as good as the local Kydex benders can do. All I had to do after that was to heat the mouths of the Kydex with the hair dryer so I could flare them slightly.

They fit nicely without any rattling, but also without too much pressure either. The tips here to use the three layers of painter's tape worked perfectly!

So here's my B8 LE #777 in it's new home (along with my TGLB too). Have Kydex coming from Al Welke for my #77 as well. However, it will be the B8 rig shown here that will join me up in the Boundary Waters at the end of May.

Good thing my wife doesn't frequent this place--if she was around she'd never let such a head-swelling comment go uncontested. :D

You're welcome for the search, Mr. Nemesis.

Thanks for helping me settle on whether or not I wanted a b8!

I just picked up a CG B8 in tanker grey (first Busse!). Other than the coating and lack of serial #, are there any major differences between the CG and LE versions?

The edge
The good thing is the tang will be protected by the coating, but the super thick edge needs a regrind, but when it's done the cg mod is perfect

First off, Congrat's on the CGB8 Score! As for differences, as was already mentioned by Raoh67, the CG came with V edges and the LE's came with convex edges. There was discussion about kydex fit/retention between the two models, but I think unless you took some calipers to each of individual blades that you had to compare with one another, you'd likely never know. The minor variances in grinds, material thickness and coating depth could be as thick/thin as one-four layers of tape which could easily make a knife feel more snug/loose in a kydex sheath. I like the thought of the coating under the Res-C too, especially Tanker Gray or Green as they seem to be the most difficult to remove/wear away.

Congrat's again and you know what they say about pics!!!:D

YEP!!!

So GREIGHT in fact, another run in .308" stock thickness would probably sell out faster than a politician trying to save their position in office during an upcoming election cycle...

How's that for a sentence containing a bunch of Optimism AND a little Pessimism.:D

Thanks guys, that's good to know. I'm definitely going to be thinning the edge out a bit, though I think I need to pick up some new diamonds to do so. And it came with an Azwelke sheath with excellent retention, so no worries on that count.

Here's a quick cell phone pic. :D

Such a fine blade; not to mention a very good-looking sheath--nice and trim. Great package Skywalker!
