???
Why?

Mammoths weren't extinct that long ago, and who knows about animals that are alive today. They could be gone tomorrow. Will that show for Them?

What's the difference? It must be More than they are extinct.
Yes, I'm ignorant, but I'm calling BS.
;)
I believe it's because the older species have more curvature in their tusks. Mastodons are more similar to elephants than mammoths and have obtuse-angled Schreger lines like elephants. So not all extinct proboscidea have acute angles, but mammoths do. Here's an in depth explanation with citations:

I think that's cool, and I'm definitely going to research More, thank you!

Hmm, looks like I need to plan a trip. Mammoth, Mastodon, and Elephant hunting. I'm not sure I could eat that much meat. Or time travel for that matter. Maybe I should call Bill and Ted.

Meh, too complicated. Maybe I should go to Africa. I've always wanted to try hippo, maybe I could bring back hippo teeth to use on a knife as an inlay...

Mmm, hippo...

Here's my collection thus far, it's meagre but costly.

I know nothing about the large Case lockback, it seems like their version of a Buck 110. My father gave it to me for my 12th birthday. I left it behind when I moved out at 18. My dad kept it and used it. When I moved back home in 2016 when I got sick with liver disease, he gave it back. I haven't touched it since. I really should clean it up.

The green mini copperlock was given to me by an old friend for my 40th birthday in 2019. I hadn't seen him in 4 years, he lives 5 hours away. His mom and mine are good friends, and his birthday is four days after mine so he was in town. Huh, that means in April I have to get him something for his 40th.

As mentioned before, the brown one is an Alan Davis custom in Corsican ram horn. The blue a Seamus knives Nor'Easter double detent flipper with giraffe bone

I love your knives, they are beautiful yet simplistic. I'm not really into fixed blades, but once I've started my new job in January I'll have to buy one just to have., I'll no longer be self employed, so I'll have more time off, PTO, and will be making more so I'll be able to afford more knives, guns (and maybe RC cars).

I've been working for the family business for 20 years. I'm disabled, and with all my health issues I've had to be under the table to get Medicare, since no health insurance would take me, and then when Obamacare came, I couldn't afford $1200 per month and a $16k deductible.

I've been healthy now for 4 years, and the agency buying our business will keep me on for more than what I am making now, plus full benefits, and I'll be working from home. It's a win for me for sure.

I've got 21 years before I am "retirement age.

Working from home will be good because I will be more productive as I can take more "ADHD" breaks. Five or ten minutes to drive my small RC car in the driveway then back to work will be wondrous. Plus I can have music going when I'm not on the phone also helps me focus.
