The humble little pen knife

It's the model 48 I was thinking of, but it looks like the coping blade was exclusive to Buck.
With the pen blade, it may be more of a 309 equivalent than 305 but I'm not exact on the #48 dimensions.

Either way I prefer the Buck blade grinds / profiles on the 305 so it's kind of a moot point.

I've had this humble little pen knife in my pocket all week.
For a square bolstered serpentine pen, I don't think it gets much better than the Buck 305.
Maybe if they were carbon steel I suppose.

I think theres a Camillus in carbon steel that's essentially the same as the 305 they produced under contract for Buck, but I don't like the Camillus blades as much as the Buck made 305 blades.
I’m quite sure the Camillus were stainless.

I was referring to the Camillus-made Bucks. There are discussions of steels used by Camillus in the Camillus Collectors Forum

I know the Camucks were always SS of some kind, I've never been one to care about specific steel types beyond is it carbon or stainless but maybe I'll look into that.

I love Pen Knives and carry them often. For me, a Pen Knife is a smallish knife, no bigger than 3 1/2", single spring, a blade at each end. I really like the equal end versions.
Here is a batch I like a lot: two Imperial-make Hammer Brand circa 1940, a 1979 stag Case 5279, a 2003 Schatt & Morgan Senator in Mammoth Ivory, and the GEC White Owl.

It is too bad that Queen did not do more in Mammoth Ivory, but with an msrp of close to $200 (in 2003 dollars!) I guess I can see why.
