Just a quick reminder as temperatures drop out there, folks:

I don't have an issue with the flying it'self, but I loathe the whole process. Takes like an hour and a half to get through the terminal and security and to actually get on the plane, sit on the tarmac for another 20 or 30 minuets then spend half an hour getting off the plane and grabbing your luggage. If your car gets better than 23mpg it's cheaper to drive (unless you stay in a hotel) so it's really only worth flying if you're going about 1500 miles or more.
As much a hassle as it all is, I love being chauffeured by air. Plus it's like a time machine....you get on in one place and climate, then BOOM - you get off and it's someplace completely different. Sadly haven't been on a plane since Disney World a couple three years ago.

A bit of video from my canoe camping trip to Vermont last week, if anyone wishes to see it......

Very cool Josh. I responded on that thread at BCUSA. Looks like a fun outing. Cold, but fun.

Lol, well, found out what happened with my boy and his little ruckus on the school bus. Turns out, I asked my daughter first if she saw what happened. She said yes. Plus, she said that she didn't really think Jared did anything wrong. (Which is strange because she's usually all for her brother getting in trouble) she told me what she knew, then I brought my boy out and told him the amount of info and truth he gives me depends on the punishment he gets. His story mimicked my daughters story perfectly. Basically this kid he had the issue with is a avid trouble maker. He came up to Jared and said he wanted to fight him, and after he beat my son up he was going to beat up the two little girls my boy was sitting with............... so, he stood up and hit the kid in the sack....... end of story. Can't say I'm to mad at him. Might be a interesting conversation with the principal tomorrow........ I will be calling him back. ;)

Reminded me of all the bobcats I've been seeing at work recently. One night a few weeks ago I was on a post and the guy who was in the back monitoring the alarm system come up and asks if I can see anything one the fence line out the window. The fence is only about 8 or 10 feet from the window and when I look out there's a bobcat kitten trying to get out. Then last night it happened again. Not sure if it was the same one but a bobcat was going up and down the fence trying to get out and setting off alarms the whole way.

Another time a few months back I was on a gate and I look up and there's a black bear strolling right by the guard shack, not full grown yet but looked old enough to be out on their own.

Great video Josh. Canoeing in that kind of weather takes some serious stones. Can I ask where you guys were? Been through southern VT many times, my grandmother used to live in Brattleboro (20+ years ago).

Way before there was YouTube, some friends of mine and I went on an October paddle on the West Branch of the Penobscot River up in Northern Maine. Was down in the teens all three nights but no snow....just frost inside the tents.

Old skool. That's me in the back, with Mt. Katahdin in the background.

My friend Mike with our little sail rig the 3rd day. A poncho and some paddles lashed to our canoes that were rafted together - a canoe-tamaran. It actually worked.

Friends Bill and Danna. We found this great island campsite...it was 15°f that morning IIRC.

OLJ - Slow yer roll Boudreau. After what you have been through you should be relaxing in your hammock in your own backyard. I know you're probably anxious to get back out there but....
Oh, what the hell do I know?!?
It looks like a great time and may be what you need more than anything a doctor could prescribe. Glad to see you back at it!

Todd - I kinda had a good feeling about your boy and how it all would shake out. From everything you've ever said about him he sounds like a great kid. I hope the principal has an open mind about a boy's right and responsibility to take care of himself and those around him.
I told both of my kids that doing the right thing isn't always going to be rewarded by authority figures and that what really counts is who you see when you look in the mirror.

One Legged Josh, it looks like it was a good time out!

Haha - That's great! The best I have is the time I found a box turtle out in the warehouse.

We were at Somerset Reservoir.
Your oldschool pics and story were great! Life should be an adventure. This side of the dirt, I will do my best to see what can be seen, and do what can be done. Life is too short not to! Thanks.

This is really good advice for anyone.

GSOM - that's some old school cool right there! Thanks for sharing.
Yer welcome. That was a fun trip....I have a LOT more pics but they're all analog at this point....and I don't feel like taking the time to turn them into digital. Some day. I have THOUSANDS of actual photos (and slides). I finally gave it up, but I really enjoyed shooting with film. Grew up right next door to Kodak; that shtuff got into my blood....

I don't know your story or what levels of hell you've been through, but you are absolutely right about that. I try to remember that every day the rubber side goes down is an opportunity to appreciate the above dirt side. I don't always succeed....but every day is another chance. I am impressed with your intestinal fortitude, friend.

Bighoss hit me up on FB sometime so i can friend you ( well if you want LOL ), anyone else here who is on FB can too, "Richard Worldwood"
