The 'I ❤ Nathan' Thread

Nathan, you are one heckuva stand up dude. Perhaps one day, while on your way to the Betzner Island for the bi-annual vacaycay, you will find the time to stop over in San Diego so that we can grab some beer and grub. Bring Jo too, if you must :p

Seriously, I will never leave you, Jo or CPK and by extension the knuckleheads who I have come to like and befriend on here. I really don't care for BF right now but that may change, if it does, it does and if it doesn't, shrugs! I'll just let the paid membership expire and be done with it. I'm also in a very weird mood because I can't shake the loss of my beloved dog. Man, this thing has fudged me up sooo badly! Only time heals all pains.

P.S. I had asked our resident poet Eric of the FoneDork fame to write an ode in your honor but I dunno man, our normally very chatty Eric has lately been as useless as tits on a hog. He has not recited any of his impromptu poems for a looong time. I think that he needs a new muse or something "worse" very badly ;)

Please feel free to hit me up as well if you are in San Diego.
Casino, that loss takes awhile to heal.

Sorry to hear about the doggo, Mat.

that sucks, man. Try and keep your chin up. I'll put in a request for you.

I have been toying with the idea of coming outta semi-retirement to go back to work for a dealership maybe for a couple or so before I lose all my already waning "skills" altogether! At first, losing my bestie recently made me give this notion very serious thoughts for a total change in daily routines, but then I started seeing all these newer acronyms: UF2, DEK2, SDFK, FK-AMZN (made this one up because it sounded naughty!) and a few others possibly in the pipeline.

Shyte, I'm just barely done paying for the 3-4 DEK1s coming my way and a bunch of other stuff calling up my number in their rotation soonish! I'm gonna tell Mom that I lurve Nathan (although, I lurve Jo a little more :D) and that it's a high maintenance cyber-lurve :p

All the best - whatever you decide to do!

And this is why I don't make kitchen knives. You can get a pretty decent kitchen knife for $150. I'm not a subject matter expert and due to the ubiquity of kitchen knives used daily in so many kitchens around the world the designs are very well worked out and refined. My design and my metallurgical background in high performance alloys that have a magical ability to stay sharp and tolerate rough use is moot in a kitchen knife. As a rule you're not wailing on them or cutting hard or abrasive food. The potato knife doesn't play to our strengths, so it's not worth what I would need to sell it for to justify making them. I know there are plenty of people willing to drop $250 for our potato knife but I don't want to do that because I don't feel the knife justifies that price.

Oh puh-lease. Show me another maker capable of or even having the idea of a fluted parabolic chisel grind. To say nothing of your level of metallurgical consideration, detail, and execution. Show me one other knife out there that slices and kicks off food like that Potato Knife. I have some super-slicey kitchen knives, but that thing is genius for its purpose. Tsuchime ain't got nothin on that parabola. And my super-slicey knives were made by large companies that had teams of PhD engineers working on each design.

I do get your bang-for-the buck angle and do very much appreciate your value-oriented approach :)<3

Thanks again Nathan for offering (making available the K-18:thumbsup:. I know it has been a pain in the ass, but the end result is just Magnificent;)

^^^Like them? Hell I LOVE Them:thumbsup:;) Without question my New favorite:thumbsup:

I would however disagree somewhat with the below statement:D The workmanship on these FAR EXCEEDS any expectation I might have had;) Thanks again

These are Utility Field Grade, milled and tumbled with visible tool and grind marks. You're buying a real and fully functional high performance sword built to cut stuff, not a shiny wall hanger, please don't buy this if you're looking for some flawless art piece. We're keeping the cost of this project within the means of regular folks, a perfectly flawless finish on these isn't practical at this price point. You guys are familiar with our standards, these will be made to our normal utility field grade standard which is generally regarded to be pretty good. PRETTY GOOD INDEED:D

Right?! I was REALLY impressed with the as-milled finish on my pre-HT one...very well done:cool::thumbsup:

We're ordering steel for the upcoming Utility Fighter 2, which needs to start production this summer for us to remain on schedule with the customer. I order full billets of 3V so I usually split the order between two patterns. I'm trying to decide what the other pattern should be. Right now I'm thinking about the 22" Notta-Katana. Jo thinks we should push that back a while since we just did a sword. What do you guys think? Too soon?

It’s never about it being too soon but all about being too late, i.e, being too late and missing the boat! If you have the set up all figured out, my input FWIW, is to absolutely go for it.

I was going to go into it and explain as to why it’s now a good time to take a risk but whichever I was going to couch it, I deemed it skirting political issues but if you can guess as to what my thoughts are at, lest you miss out on it. Nuff said.
