The Jani-Song is on the horizon!

Upon glancing at photos of the Barry Wood design, I assumed they worked the same. Thanks for the clarification! :)

Fingers remaining crossed.

I have been a fan of the Barry Wood design since I first saw one back in the 1970's. It definitely helped inspire the Jani-Song, but they are indeed different. The fact that the Jani-Song utility patent was granted in less than a year reflects that.

Thank you all for your interest.

Stay safe,

Mike

Really hope the Janisong emerges at some point in the future. Big thanks to Mr Janich and Mr Glesser for working on bringing this back!

Wait... So we won't be able to get ahold of these, at least, not without going though the secondary market?

When Gail and I first saw the Janisong at the Blade Mag show, we felt it was the first really new knife design to come out in years. Very surprised it didn't win an award. When Michael joined the Spyderco team, we purchased the patent from him. The plan has awlays been there to make them. As we expand production, the Janisong will be included.

Sal, is it too early to speculate blade steel? The original was made in 154cm. I think, but I am not 100% sure, that there were also d2 versions.

And here's more design focused question. When Janich was so kind to allow me to play with a Jani-song for a week, one thing that struck out at me was the inner handle and it just making my fingers sore after flipping the knife for a while. The "safe" handle does make contact with your fingers as you twirl and flip the knife about. I was thinking maybe radius-ing the edges of the inner handle would help a little.

Sal, we're wondering if these will be sold to American vendors in decent numbers. Thanks for your presence!

Great to finally hear some news about this knife! Feels like its been floating around forever now. I wonder if the price will be similar to the smallfly or a little bit more.

Hi Harkamus,

Haven't picked a steel yet.

Will look into the safe handle.

When we make them in Golden, they'll be sold to vendors qualified to sell autos.

That's really cool to hear that they will be made in Golden. I think you have alluded to increasing production capacity in Golden as of late; are there plans to add to the factory or build a second one in Golden?

Thanks,

This thread reminds me of the movie 'yes, virginia, there really is a Santa Claus'

It's great to hear from Sal and Mike that there will be a Janisong production knife!

We're adding to the existing plant.
