The Just Hanging Out Thread.

It was a very late hit, in the last seconds of a game where the Steelers already got their @$& beat (and I'm a Steelers fan). The late hit was unnecessary, and Mason got pissed and reacted in an equally unnecessary manner. None of that is unusual for an NFL game, even the initial scrum that happened in the continuation. But hitting a dude with his own helmet is straight up unhinged. Mason probably deserved the same discipline that Pouncey got, so they messed up there, but a year at least for Garrett is good, since he's actually avoiding a real criminal charge in reality. Garrett did put out a decent apology, so maybe he'll get his head straight. But it was the single most disturbing thing I've ever seen in an NFL game. I read a post from a guy that had his 8 year old at the game, for instance. Thats not a conversation you expect to have to have with your kid after an NFL game.

Unpopular opinion, the Steelers either need to pick up Cardale Jones from the XFL or Colin K. Mason is too slow in the release of the ball, the game is too fast for him.

Wait there's boxing in football now? I thou5that was hockey's thing. I'll have to start watching again. This is all news to me. Stopped watching when you could tell the refs were interfering with the natural play of the game.

My father in law is a huge Steelers fan. He’s in the hospital right now and he’s going to be bummed that he missed all this.

I agree. Rudolph should be suspended. I think he only didn’t because he has been mostly pegged as the victim. He instigated it twice, not just once. But yes the helmet hit is ridiculous. It is not like Garret was in fear from Rudolph lol. The fact that Mason said Garrets actions were bush league is bs. He instigated and then tried to sucker punch from behind his lineman, then throws his hands up like he did nothing, crazy he isnt being called out more... but again he is the “victim”

Wanted to share the shaman I got from David Mary David Mary . I did a out of pif trade with him and picked this up. Had WValtakis WValtakis thin it out to make it a slicing beast and give it a satin finish. Add a choil and put a little texture on the scales. With the work both have done this shaman is truly one of a kind and also now left hand friendly. I would like to thank David for making the offer even though I was not interested and his offer was well worth more then what he took in trade for it . Truly one of the nicest men I have met and have had the honor to deal with.

A special thank you to WValtakis WValtakis for taking a trade do some work for me. I known trades don't pay the bills and you don't do that 90% of the time. I'm blessed by your talents and friendship. I know what I ask you to do wasn't the easiest thing to do. Not the hardest but certainly way above my pay grade. I will most certainly enjoy using this knife for many years because of both you fella.

So thank you both from the bottom of my heart.

Edit. I should mention the mods David did to the shaman. And david if I miss anything please chime in as it was already loaded with tons of them and I'm sure I'm gonna miss one.

Removed the tap that hits the finger( thumb if your a lefty and is what caused me to drop a freinds and not want the shaman) when you close it.

Reprofiled the blade shape
Trimmed down the back bone to reshape the blade or redefine it into a more Bowie like blade shape .

Chamfered the spydie hold.

Reshaped the handle for a better formed fit.a.k.a. took the bump out of the pointer finger slot so it's more comfortable.

Smoothed the g-10 out .( with the numbness in the hands I had to have WValtakis put a little texture back. It was a little to smooth for me. But it did feel.nice)

Added a deep carry pocket clip.

And I think a few other things I just cant remember

Rich, I'm humbled by your kind description of me. I'll try to live up to it. The only thing I'd say about the Shaman is that I only smoothed out the parts of the G10 handle that created hot spots for me, particularly the inner edges of the scales. But the flats are already pretty smooth from the factory, which was the reason I wasn't carrying this one. It was too slippery a knife for me, and when you told me you had the scales media blasted, I kind of face palmed, because only days after I sent it to you, @Sharp & Fiery mentioned to me he'd be happy to media blast stuff for me. That being said, I am really looking forward to the three Tenaciouses you have sent my way, especially the blue one, which I have not been able to find in anywhere Canada, even in the aftermarket. And I'll feel better carrying and using knives I don't have to baby.

WValtakis WValtakis cool to find out you worked on my old Shaman! It's funny, had I known Rich would want that done, I would have done it before I shipped it. Out of curiosity, may I ask what sort of set up you used? I admit I use a small 2 x 42 grinder in a 6 x 6 cramped shop that is exposed to the outside air. But I am Canadian, and like the cold, so

This is sort of what I'll do to the Tenaciouses when they arrive:

That's the one I got from @kframe357 and after my mods, it has found its way to a good friend who also has a factory Tenacious in the household. He likes this one better.

I had a "Central Machinery" 4 x 36 for a couple years before I got this one. Man it was slow. But I didn't know what I didn't know. And I didn't use ceramic. I used AO! My Dayton 2 x 42 is much faster and I use ceramic now. You might want to take a look?

Here is the video that turned me onto it (I can't remember if there is bad language so if there is, I heartily disclaim it!):

I use it differently though. I grind by eye, and horizontally, because that is how I learned to on the 4 x 36. My best work didn't start happening until I installed a glass platen (which snapped in half a couple days ago in the cold! - I have another on order)

Here's the never ending house reno project. Tools from the pif assisting.

This Rat1 came as a bonus actually from an awesome member. It had an unusable edge on it strangely and I had to reprofile it by hand, then I finished it up in the sharpmaker. The Aus8 was surprisingly tough and I shifted over to some diamond plates to make reprofiling quicker.

What on earth is wrong with burgers? Dietary cholesterol? Not sure I buy that one. Processed refined sugar and a lack of exercise, proper rest and nutrition maybe.

Why not dietary cholesterol? It’s well proven.

The rest of your comment about refined sugar, lack of exercise, proper rest, etc. is a big assumption.

Cool! As some of you may know, my wife is basically a pyschopath and sado-masochistic. Amidst being the accountant that green lights the M&A team's deals for one of the largest healthcare labs in the United States, Quest Diagnostics she also expects that she and her city born husband to be Bob Vila, This Old House part deux, home renovators.

That said a year ago we purchased an old home in NJ, a beat to hell place built in 1771, the family that built it was one of the founding families in NJ and owned around 8,000 acres encompassing all the surrounding towns of Parsippany before they sold and partititioned off everything to make way for progress. George Washington stayed with the grandparents of the guy who built our house across the street during his travels to and from NJ, Newark, Valley Forge, etc...There must have been a 100 houses I can imagine where he stayed during the revolution.

It had still one of the very first dishwashers in the kitchen, non working of course and 4 layers of floor underneath it that made it seem like there was a 3 inch hump between the kithen and the rest of the house.

We paid a contractor to rip out the kitchen in doing so he found additional faults everywhere which meant that we had to rebuild the bathroom next to it which ran us over budget. We basically ran out of cash for immediate renos and have been doing a lot of the other stuff ourselves which can be done by a home owner vs a contractor.

So after redoing our floors ourselves we decided to tackle the stairs. We only wanted the kitchen and bathrooms to be modern with everything else being as close to original as possible.

Here's a before shot! 60's shag carpet in doo-doo brown!

We spent a month stripping 250 years and countless layers of paint and varnish trying to preserve the original treads when we gave up and knew that they weren't salvagable.

When we were doing the stripping, it was great looking at all the different colors these floors had been painted going back to 1771 when the house was built.

The house even has a fancy pants name in a book, the John Condit Smith House top of pg 35

We rebuilt the stairs with new balisters (sp?), primed and ready for some plaster and fill and the last coat of paint, after this is done its onto the next projects! Need to learn how to plaster walls between now and then!

Earlier in the year we broke our backs learning how to sand down and refinish a floor. We screwed it up and had to resand down everything not realizing that the poly had to be completely removed. Monofletch Monofletch learnt us that we had to use the industrial belt sander and not the drum sander that Home Depot suggested. Of course with the new tool it made quick work of the second sanding job. Still it took two extra days and our entire weeklong vacation to pull off as we didn't know what we were doing except for what we picked up off of youtube.

And the finished results, complete with my wife's obsessive hunting for antique Eastlake furniture which I don't really know what that is except that its uncomfortable but she seems to love it.

For fun here's the living room, we'd like to get a carpenter to rebuild the built in for us at some point after we figure out what to do with the floor. The house is so old that you're looking at a coal fireplace which can't burn wood.

that floor looks great - makes it worth the effort of sanding them

my wife is full on coocoo bird (its genetic) and i can't count the projects we've taken on against my better judgement - only for her to change her mind
