The Just Hanging Out Thread.

Oh you gotta for sure. The myth of the brand is too much to handle. I was obsessed and bought every alternative for a while. Ti Sage, Bradley alias, Benchmade pinnacle, Ti milli (close but too big). I arguably like the pinnacle better but they're hard to come by in good shape.

I did my best to live up to the spirit of the thread. I think I put up around 14 things and claimed 4. Admittedly I was “guilty” of paying attention to value and mentioned it in response to questions about the stuff I was putting in a few times. In hindsight I can see how that makes it look like a swap or a trade.

What caught my attention at the end and in the W&C was Sharp & Fiery being called out for “junk”’he put up for a knife. I can’t remember and don’t care who called him out but I do believe it had something to do with claiming the Guardian 3 I put in and putting up two dive knives. What most people did not know at the time is that his claim was for another member from the start and he was putting up his knives for someone else’s benefit. I don’t think he ever publicly mentioned that but I could be mistaken.

I witnessed countless other acts of generosity in the time I was active in the thread.

I could see how someone looking in would not see the overall good will the thread supported. Sure there were occasions where things were unfair and sure some people took advantage of the generosity of others. It probably got worse towards the end. But overall my experience was a good one. It’s too bad it fell apart but that’s gonna happen more often than not when you put a very diverse group of people together and there are sharp shiny objects involved.

@bikerector I would be very interested in what you are thinking of doing. Sound like something I pondered.

The biggest issue of all was ppl who never even participated, skimming the thread and thinking they had a clue what was going on then offering words of "wisdom". All and all i guess when you live a miserable life it's extremely difficult to watch anybody having a decent time.
@Poriggity did that stuff show up yet?

I've been saving up for one myself. Then just when I get close, boom need new tires, or need to feed the kids, or something else I don't want to do lol. One day though... One day.... I'll have that large inkosi tanto with black micarta inlays.

Them damn kids seem like they need to eat everyday, at least mine keeps saying he does. It gets old after awhile.:D:D i really like their burgundy micarta inlays. I'm not a big crk fan but I seen a black frame with those inlays and it looked great.

Tell you what. Put that inkosi thru it's paces and report back. That's the same model I'm after myself.
You're right about the myth of the brand. It's powerful. Very powerful. Almost to the point where people will murder their child Abraham of the Bible style over it. (I think it was Abraham, I'm a little rusty on my biblical references.)

You guys are crazy. This whole meltdown had nothing to do with anyone not involved.

From an outsiders perspective, the fall started with @Quiet ‘s opinion on the PIF concept. Know what? He was 100% right and only putting the “social experiment” in common sense terms that shined a light on what was going on.

There became a tribe mentality where the “core group” tried to out-do one another with their generosity. That was great. New people were drawn in, and in essence bought in to the tribe.

The sharks were drawn in too smelling blood in the water and free stuff. Bound to happen.

In the long run, the “tribe” became too large, trust disappeared, and sides were drawn. The thread imploded.

The chat thread was closed, by a member of the tribe, over someone calling his bluff.

Blaming Whine & Cheese is facile. All the criticism leveled was private and in a place designed to keep criticism... Private to the point you needed to actually look for it to find it. W&C may be a convenient place to blame for this mess, but you all know full well, that isn’t why this whole thing failed.

If you all start again, you’d be well served to learn from all this or you’ll end up exactly here...once more.

Hi Everyone.

I just found this thread not too long ago. It’s been fun reading everybody’s comments but, I see that some people are still tense and stressed a little bit. I can see why.

Some of us were very passionate about the pay it forward thread. This thread, like the other pay it forward threads in the past was bound to crash and burn. It just happens. It has to.

Ask for a new thread, I’m all for it. However, I think it’s a little too soon. If we start one now I’m afraid it will crash and burn very quickly.

When another one gets started I would love to be involved. For me they are very educational and just downright fun.

A few basic rules would be a good idea. One option could be that you have the right to turn down a return PIF without requiring an explanation as to why. This could keep the thread running smoother without so much bickering.

Another rule could be that all negotiations for PIFs are done via personal message or email. The thread is notified by the person offering the PIF (person A)that it has been claimed by person B. Person B then puts up their PIF that was accepted by person A.
Person A does not ship PIF until Person B post their offering.

Just a couple of ideas.

My wife is now here so I have to stop.

Oh, my Jeep is still dead. I hate it when something mechanical gets the best of me. :(

If we don’t have a PIF thread by the end of May, I might start one.
You guys think that is enough time for ruffled feathers to get back in place?
Probably would be a good time. A few month after the holidays. Good luck with that damn jeep. I have to rewire the alternator on my excursion just noticed its glowing red:mad:

If u start up another pif,I'll be around because i'm always going to be on bf cus I go to the live's ever Sunday, but I'm not going to interact with the list.wheater I get other new stuff or not.thank you for you generosity, even if it was, just help finding a page,or appropriately letting me know, your having issues understand me I've tried to change from the way I used to be because of my messed up life but anyway wish u luck if I'm allowed to comment with u guy,it would be appropriated. I'll keep trying to make my texts read able most of the time.

You are all good buddy! And don’t listen to the bs. You payed forward more value then the knife and sharpener I sent you. So just know that! The rest is bs.

Thx it is actually extremely reliable. Its a 2003 and so I redid all the wiring last year as preventative maintenance except that one of course. Love the truck except the 11mpg, but I can load it up with a friend, 3 kids a 100lb dog and all our camping gear and still 11mpg lol

I used to have a ‘76 Grand Torino.
460 cid w/automatic. You could tow a whole mountain range behind it and still get 10-12 mpg.

Of course you also got that just driving to the local gas station down the hill and with a tailwind.

And yes, it was red.

1989 Jeep Cherokee, 64,123K original when I got it about two years ago. Just under 70K on it now. Lots of problems but not burning oil. Leaking, yes. Burning, no.

Been in the family 30 years last September.

Cat,I hope the problem with your jeep gets fixed.so u can breathe a little bit easier.

Thank you. I hope so too. Only having my wife’s Kia is a real hassle. I hate that car. To small and to low to the ground. The seats kill my back. But, it’s not my car.

Fun to drive though. She loves it and that’s what counts.

I miss our old Forester.

It might help some but really the whole layout of the car is wrong for me. I have to bend and twist to get in or out. Duck my head too. The car really is not set up for someone with a messed up back.

Like I said, she loves the car and it fits her just fine.

What do they say, happy wife, happy life?
