The kamis and sarkis send a message to us all -- please read.

Many thanks Yvsa and Rob. It seems that I am spending more time doing puja here than I am working but this is in no way a complaint.

Today was spend doing a pilgrimage to a Hindu temple atop a mountain about half way between Kathmandu and Pokhara. I will not make it to Pokhara this time but today was enough. It is another one of those experiences which come along once in a lifetime. I have pix and details which I'll probably have to wait to post back in the US. I'm told I was the first foreigner ever to enter this temple. It was a fluke or else a work of Manakamana. More on this one later.

The kamis do not yet know of my success but I do not believe they will be surprised. Nepal is called the land of the gods by some and I think they are right.

Great and sincere blessings to all from Anamnagar, Suryabenai and Manakamana, Nepal!

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle Bill: I hope I'm not too late with these remarks, as I've been out a day or two.

I would like to second Jim March's comments, re social status. We (American knife enthusiasts) consider knife-makers to be very skilled and artistic people, and among our respected craftsmen. Tell the kamis and sarkis we appreciate their skill and craft. Tell them also that I personally send my prayers up on their behalf. You might also tell them American knife buyers will pay a premium for quality, and that you (Uncle Bill) will get more for their best works.

Now, come home safe!

When I grow up I wanna be just like Uncle Bill.

And, tell the kamis they rule my world.

Maui Rob: Good Lord! I had no idea of what was transpiring.

I thank God that your wife is going to be OK.

The kamis and sarkis have a hard time understanding our acceptance of them as men of not just exceptional skill but as men of honor and integrity also.

As I review the progress I've made with them I think that my firing up the forge, heating and pounding some hot steel myself made a deep impression on them. I am very glad I did this. It showed them something that I could have never explained in words.

Continued thanks and blessings from BirGorkha to all.

Khukuri FAQ

Thanks Dave.

I wasn't going to bring that up on the forum, but since Uncle passed on the message from the kamis and sarkis which said that they had been continually praying for all of us: I thought thanks were in order.

You all really are a great bunch of guys! I have more fun here than anywhere else

Uncle,
I am glad to be able to contribute to the well being of someone's family. Something to think about the next time we go on a moan-and-groan about salaries. What a reward to have my picture have meaning to someone living halfway around the world! Any word on old Nara? Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Best to all of you,
Leo

Uncle Bill,

Please thank the kamis and sarkis for their fine craftsmanship, and the soul that each khukuri carries with it. I am honored each time I use one of their working pieces of art.

We share in their happiness and sadness. Please tell them that we are touched by their words.

Please thank them for me also.

I have come by the 3 Khukuri's I have thru trades and I love them all. There is a certain "feel" to them that somehow touches me. I place their work on par with any of the "great" and "famous" of our current knifemakers. I truly thank them for the work they put forth.

I have always dreamed of going to the roof of the world and some day I will. I hope to thank them in person then.

Vince

This is a most remarkable thread.
That so many can relay so much emotion and honesty because of a knife is amazing.
I, for one, am truly moved by what these men so far away have given us.
Tell them again and show them all the English words that we try to convey.
Your trip was a spiritual adventure for all.

I think when I'm able to post the pix of the Bishwakarma puja this will all make more sense and mean much more to us. To be an integral part of that puja was one of the highlights of my life. I am blessed and honored by that experience.

To tell you the truth, I could spend the rest of my days living and working with the men of BirGorkha and be damned happy but I cannot make a knife and the men cannot operate a computer and sell knives. It is our karma to do what we do where we must do it but we are still brothers -- all of us.
