The knives that make you proud.

I'm not a maker or modifier, so don't think I'd use "proud" to describe any knives in my collection (all I did was buy them cuz I liked them). Rather, what I think I'm most proud of is the knowledge gained while collecting Cold Steel for many years, which has allowed me to help others, as well as post some "history" threads in the CS sub.
But you can still be proud of your great taste in sharp stuff!

I'm proud of every thing that comes out of my shop, but these ones are probably my favorites.

My friend Dave Pillow (Heartland Carvers) carved the Koi on this, and it was one of the last things he worked on before he passed away.
I didn't carry the knife a lot before because I didn't like the S30V, so I had Nath reblade it in Nichols 3V core damascus and changed the blade profile quite a bit.

Thank you for the kind words. ☺️

Here is a link showcasing the CRK and the work that went into it, John. It also shows the lockside. Iff’n you are interested in the backstory.

There are those knives that allow you to confidently say "give me a ridiculous offer." I just mine recently SBD Arch Nemesis. Show me your proudest.

My Kuros. I wouldn't say it makes me proud, but I won't ever sell it. Josh made several of these in different configurations; with this blade (hollow ground Cruwear "Wharncliffe" that I was allowed to draw), it is unique. I love to carry "Wharncliffes" with my fixed blades, and the only reason I don't carry the Kuros every day is that I'm afraid of loosing it. It's irreplaceable.

First photo this morning, 2nd from Josh:

IDK.

I own a lot of knives, some fairly rare and unique, but "proud" is not a word that I'd associate w/my ownership/possession of them because I had nothing to do w/making them. I just bought them w/$ and there's really nothing I can take "credit for" by doing that.

On the other hand, there are many knives in my collection that I am pleased and feel fortunate to own. Too many to mention here but, if you scan the "Latest Acquisitions" thread, you'll find some of them pictured there.

That is wonderfully beautiful!! Glad it finally came to fruition for you. :)
Thank you Sir.🙏🙂
I commissioned this for inspiration and had a bit of input into the design.
It sits on my desk to remind me of what is possible for fit and finish.

An absolutely stunning piece. Clean and complex all at the same time.👌

Peter is definitely a maker I would like to commission and piece from in the near future.

Wow, what an amazing knife, congratulations.
It must be a great joy to have that on your desk.

I would first have to buy a new desk out of respect for the knife and maker 😁

This knife makes me proud. The professional Dutch knife maker sufferd from severe brain damage about 10 years ago but slowly found his way back into knife making. From this particular model only 10 were made, alle different except for four frame locks. The knife is flawless with the best grind ever possible. The macarta slabs are from the 1030's and started with a bright yellow color that patina made it now look brown reddish. Blade steel is Böhler M390. I've owned it for about 5 years or so.

That's a tough one, since I have quite a few that bring those extra smiles to my face.
But, I will put these few up, they definitely being some specimens I am proud to own and truly enjoy having them within my collection...

I am proud to own some of the big bowies finished by Ichiro Hattori, a fallkniven mb10, also have a couple cold steel sanmai by him.
Aside from the controversy I am proud to own a strider D9 in s30v with BOS heat treat.

No images. Sorry.

I gave our son a Randall #16-1 "Special Fighter" before he deployed to Iraq in 2004 with the Marines. As ordered: Stainless steel, Nickle silver cross guard, border patrol handle, black micarta. It had to be modified to dull the famous mirror polish to subdue reflected glint in the desert. Randall Made wouldn't do it, but a local gunsmith masked it off and bead-blasted the shiny parts down to a dull grey. Wouldn't take my money. It was worn n on a drop-leg rig or strapped his plate carrier for weeks at a time on patrol outside the wire. Somewhere along the way, he decided to hand sharpen the top false edge.

Go ahead; make him an offer. He'll just laugh.

Pride...? For owning a knife? I don't really understand that concept. Seen it before in this forum. I'm proud of what I have achieved in life not for the fact that I own a certain piece of cutlery as happy as I am for having it. Are you proud of the fact that you had the money for it? or the fact you clicked faster that someone else? Or the fact that someone else owned the knife before you? Are you proud of your taste in knives? IDK. I feel that the only ones who could feel pride for a knife are those who make them. This is perhaps the closer I get to that: I am proud of how I restored this knife:

Not sure if I’m proud of this knife. I find great comfort in its simplicity, abilities and aesthetics. This was my first Winkler, about 12 more followed, this is one of two that remain. I trust that knife. This one does anything I need a knife to do. This one seems to get better by the year as well ( ages well ). I sold it once, jumped at the chance to buy it back. Love that knife.
