the knives you were dreaming of...

What knife do you remember dreaming of when you was a kid?

now do you own this knife?

Buck 110 and any real Swiss Army knife. I had a 110 for awhile but traded it in high school. To this day, however, I carry a Victorinox almost every day. I'm 41 now, btw.

I remember the early (circa 1984/85)Cold Steel advertisements in Black Belt magazine, even then they were hanging barbell weights from their lockbacks. I wanted one of those bad. I lusted for the real "butterfly" knife but settled on a Frost Cutlery Bali. Now Balisongs interest me about as much as kidney stones, tastes change over time I guess.

Haha, with a screen name like "crom" I'm surprised you didn't mention one of Conans swords from the movies.

I'd still love to have the Atlantein sword that Arnie used! :D

That would have been the other one I wanted...and still want. Have you seen the exact replicas of those?

If I owned that thing I'd probably be running around my front yard in a fur loin cloth doing those sword moves he does in the movie.

I know the neighbors would be looking at me weird, but I wouldn't care. I'd just give them the Conan stare and the archer pose with sword in hand and say:

"Crom, I have nevuh prayed to you befoah. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, vill remembuh if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All dat mattas is dat two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL vit you! "

I love that prayer. One of these days, when the rain is blowing sideways and a wild-eyed, eight foot maniac grabs me by the neck and taps the back of my favorite head up against a barroom wall...I'll utter it.

Just before getting my ass kicked.

But not before I deafen the guy with my battle cry.

Which sounds remarkably like a school girl screaming: "NOT IN THE FACE!! NOT IN THE FACE!!"

For me, it was the Schuyler Lovestrand fighters I occasionally saw in Blade.

I liked knives when I was a kid. I don't remember dreaming about them because any knife was a good knife to me then. I too wanted the Rambo knife and got one, yes it was a POC, but not then, not at the moment I got it. The knife was cool, with its compass, matches, fishing line, etc. cheap vinyl sheath. And even though it was a POC to us today, it was the grail when I was 12.
Also, I must give Macgyver his due credit for introducing me to SAK's.

Mr. Lile designed the one i wanted, but didnt he actually only make 13 for the movie, and the ones that flooded the market were cheap spinoffs? im pretty sure the flea market ones i looked at werent Lile originals. LOL

I was in the Air Force in 1985 and living in Arkansas. I contacted Jimmy Lile personally regarding his First Blood knife. Well, I kick myself for not buying one! Keep in mind that the price for this hand made piece was $600! Sound's like a bargain now but then, I didn't even consider it. This was way out of my price range as I made about $8K/year.

Damn it, I wish I would have bought it anyway. That's the way things go sometimes. I have no idea how many he made but they are worth a fortune now.

Definitely the "Rambo knife" that we all saw in the back of the magazines and comic books (I wonder how many millions of those things they sold!). Anyway, that turned out to be a POS, so my interest turned to swords. I badly wanted a samurai sword, and even more a ninja sword. Well, I finally got the ninja sword and found out that the thing was constructed so that you couldn't sharpen it! It wasn't just that it had a dull edge, it actually had brass in the inside of the blade and then a thin metal plating over that. As a result, when you sharpen it, you quickly got down to the brass and there was no way to get that sucker even butter-knife sharp - believe me I tried. :p Alas, the psychological scars and haunting memories I've had to live with, all due to my misguided early years of knife collecting.:(

A Western W49, and I eventually got one one Christmas. It was my first big knife, and started a moderate lifetime addiction to good ol' fashioned choppers.

I always wanted a pocket knife growing up. My mom refused and my dad followed her lead. I remember dropping out of the boyscouts when I knew that my mom wouldn't get me the approved pocket knife at the end of the year.

Well, I ordered my first Vic Cadet a year ago. Despite having ordered a number of folders before that, I find myself carrying the Cadet everyday. It's very useful but also nostalgic, in a sense.

I wanted a Randall after borrowing / handling one as a young boy scout. I have a few now.

I always wanted a Cold Steel Tanto. I finally got one, but have since decided that it's not the kind of knife I need for anything, and gifted it to a friend on his birthday.

oh i forgot.....the bowie that Billy carried in The Predator. i loved that big sob.... while im at it id take Crocodile Dundee's knife too, just so i could reinact that ever so famous scene.
