Well, I got some laser time in! 700mm/min, 100% power on these.

Thank you. A lot of time went into the design coins and figuring out brass colors. Then there is the time engraving them and using the fiber laser to color them.

Yes 100W JPT MOPA fiber is what I used. Though you should be able to get some of the colors with a non-mopa.

I would create an stl with the pattern your looking for and convert that to grayscale. Then engrave it on a few test pieces to get the depth your looking for.

Thanks, yep had to dial them in with test grids in lightburn. I use a MOPA fiber

I just got back from running my four week sales route, hot and tired so I’m unwinding and resting in the air conditioning playing with the laser a bit. Right now I’m just trying different settings to see what results I get. Nothing is centered, just test pieces.

Pro Tip: Don't forget to de-select "Enable Rotary" before trying to etch your maker mark on a finished blade blank.....

I ordered the Scuplfun 2w IR module, should be here tomorrow! I saw some video reviews and I am hoping it works for my makers mark!

Yeah, I saw a video where the guy did stainless sheet and got a nice black on it. I've seen stainless tumblers with a nice black etch, too. I will post pics!

For my 60W MOPA I just picked up a focal chain that attaches to the scan head... it's awesome, super fast and less fuss on my end. Glad I found it on etsy!

Let us know how well the 2w IR works on SS. I read they're the best for gold, silver, etc.

I use a 2W IR. Works perfect. A few passes and you get a nice deep burn.

That's only about 10 seconds - pretty darn fast. About the same as my fiber, and LOTS faster than the 10 watt diode.
