Who will win, blaze orange g-10? blue glow g-10 or green canvas micarta
im looking for durability grip and comfort, but i must say that g-10 stuff is stylish

1. Green Micarta
2. BAMBOO
3. Orange G10
4. blue G10

I say micarta all the way. Its my choice on everything, although a orange g10 would be sweet too!

I like blue G-10. But for visibility, the orange is unbeatable.

For durability, they're all pretty equals on that list.

It depends on your priorities:

Easiest to find? Orange
Looks coolest? Blue
Most subdued? Green

So, what matters most to you?

well if there all pretty much the same durability, personally im looking for a good grip, but g-10 looks kinda slippery, could you give me an idea on how g-10 feels?

I find that mikarta is better as far as grip goes.

this is so hard!
I love the look of the orange g-10 but also think the grip of the micarta looks quite comforting, ugh i can never decide when it comes to buying something new.
so give me a sort of chart and advantages vs disadvantages to green micarta vs orange g-10.
oh and if anyone else can decide, im looking for a nice survival sheath for it, some of that paracord stuff and a nice diamond arkansas stone

Get the color and material you want based on color, durability, ect. If the grip is too slippery for you you can always send it back to Bark River to be changed to matte finish.

I have BRK&T knives in smooth Micarta BRK&T knives and smooth G-10 handles (blaze orange). I have used them for everything from woodwork to skinning deer. They never seemed to slick or uncomfortable to me.

then its settled, blaze orange g-10 but im still looking for a survival sheath and a good sharpening stone. i want to order this stuff all at once. ive got a nice little SAK huntsman, victorinox and some other gear. this will be a very nice little survival rig.

If it is a Bravo-1 consider a hone instead of a stone. Unless you chop a rock or steel you should be able to hone a BRK&T convex blade back to razor sharp on a piece of leather or even cardboard charged with chromium dioxide.

In the field I keep a paddle type hone in my pack in a ziplock bag with a small chromium dioxide crayon. In a pinch the raw leather on the back of a belt or a piece of paste board will touch up a convex edge real fast. I also have a small extra fine diamond hone for repairing real edge damage but I have never had to use it.

Personally I LOVE blaze orange G-10. Here is my BRK&T Golok and Lil' Chute combo in a custom JRE combo sheath.

Uh, yeah you use a strop to maintain a convex grind. Get the optional leather sheath for the bravo1 w/ firesteel loop. They also have matching firesteels as well. Someone post a pic of what im talkin bout, I am away from my camera....

I'm just using G10 for a knife handle for the first time, orange as a matter of fact as I couldn't find orange micarta. It was a whole lot harder to saw the slabs than micarta, leading me to believe it may be tougher, but that's just based on this one experience. I do love my little woodland special in orange, grip is good and it's just pretty.

I would get the green Micarta with the leather sheath and piggyback a Mikro-canadian in the same handle material, but what the heck do I know.

For a convex edge too dull for stropping, you can use the mousepad sharpening technique. Just put sand paper on a mousepad and sharpen away. The mouspad conforms to the convex edge.

I saw the matching firesteels and they look really nice but $50 for a firesteel is way too much IMHO. It would be cheaper to buy some orange G-10 and a couple firsteel blanks to make your own. Just my 2 cents.

I find the same, though that may vary depending upon whether it's paper micarta, linen micarta, or canvas micarta, as well as depending upon how it is finished.

+2 I've come to the conclusion I won't even bother to buy another G10 handled fixed blade because I hate the way that it feels when it's wet that much. There's some cool G10 out there, but I'll take form over fashion.

As far as firesteels;

The one on my sheath is a backup.

I carry a ziplock bag will filled with rolled up toilet paper and a Light My Fire firesteel. The main use for the toilet paper is obvious but if you wrap toilet paper over your striker and scrape the rod you get instant fire.

I hardly ever use the one on my knife so a custom firesteel makes more sense.

Was that textured G-10 or smooth?

It was a patterned handle, a Busse to be exact, although I'm not crazy about textured G10 on folding knives either. It all comes down to personal preference. There must be a lot of people that are happy with G10 or they still wouldn't be making knives with it, but it doesn't work for me.
