The last knife?

I haven't bought into the hype of CS for a long time, but I have grown fond of my Couterpoint. Less than $70, strong lock, ok AUS10 steel. Nothing to write home about, but it makes for a nice hard use knife when I don't want to bugger something nicer.

I may pick up a couple more models in that price point just because they are solid knives. For $70, I don't really care if GSM stands behind them or not. Plus, they make for an easy Christmas/birthday/Father's day gift that my wife and daughter can pick out without much effort.

I don't think I'll ever spend more than $120 on a CS again, though.

I have one of them made out of CTS bd1 Carpenter Steel. I don't think you can break it and I've abused mine.

That CTS bd1 sometimes gets a bad wrap, but I find it pretty serviceable. I've got an clip point Voyager XL that seems pretty robust despite the fragile tip. I've never had it chip out or roll, and I've used it off and on as a travel kitchen knife (size of a small chef knife but folds up for safer packing and certainly sharper than what you find at a condo/kitchenette) since the fall of 2020.

I think I fall on Cold Steel as a budget beater brand more than anything. They don't use a lot of high end premium materials, but they put effort into the locks and price is reasonable. It's not enough to make me a rabid apologist, but if they continue to crank out the Taiwan stuff at the same fit and pricepont, I think I'll pick them up on impulse.

None of the newest GSM designs (Engage, Verdict, etc.) have appealed to me and I already have the handful of "Old Steel" designs that do. I wouldn't rule out ever picking up something that was heavily marked down in a sale, but I'm probably done with CS for the most part..

I will say, I think the GSM marketing strategy of making older, popular designs in different colorways for less $ is a wise move on their part. It's unfortunate though that customer service seems non-existent under new ownership. Based on the few GSM manufactured Cold Steels I own, it seems quality hasn't suffered yet, which is the only reason I haven't written off CS completely at this point.. idk.. they're just no longer a brand I feel confident in under the current management..

I'm looking hard at the variations on the AD-10, that are now out. The other variants are interesting, especially the green.

I picked up a Espada XL g10 tan! The build quality was better than my old (first of the aus10 xls) Espada XL. Also the grind lines were perfect where as the old one was less than stellar! Maybe I just got lucky!

I sold or traded most of my cold steel.
I think i only have a medium warcraft tanto in 3v and a kudu left.
