The Les George Knives Thread

Have you guys ever heard of any Les George clones? Just curious in regards to using ebay and what not. It'd suck to unknowingly get a clone.
I've never seen a Les George clone (*knocks on wood). However, it's possible we may see one some day as more and more companies are getting knocked off. Jonathan McNees made a couple of recent IG posts about how his Mac is now being cloned. I hope it never happens to Les! It's stressful enough having to buy almost instantly to get one on the secondary market without having to worry about a piece's authenticity.

I have never seen (or heard of) one either. Unless Limp is possibly referring to one of the collaborations Les has done.

Ok, thank you Necroanax Necroanax and P pnclbell , that's good to hear. I wasn't refering to anything that I had seen in particular and thought might be a clone, I was just wondering in general if anyone knew of any LG clones being on the market. His knives have always kind of been in a niche of a smaller group of very loyal owners (compared to say CRK), plus with there not being very many LGs on the market, I guess we got just the right combination to make the cloning companies stay away.

I was just pondering this the other day…

The only clone I have come across is the Protech LG301 Rockeye Fixed Blade (Les George design). The biggest pre-purchase indicator is the missing blade steel marking. Other indicators include the blade is painted vs Cerakote, the weight in hand is much heavier, and typical clone stuff like fonts don't match and incorrect sheath. Some of these wouldn’t be noticeable without comparing to a real one.

I ended up with a clone on a too good to be true purchase from a well known auction side. Fortunately I was able to present enough evidence to get my money back.

Loving my MK3! One thing I noticed yesterday that I really like, and impressed me, is the thread count on the pivot screw. I think it has the highest thread count (tight threads) of any pivot screw that I've seen. That's cool because you get less tightening and loosening per rotation, making it easier to set the pivot tension to that perfect place that suits your taste.

I put a bit of plumbers tape on my pivot screws so you can fine tune it at will and it won't loosen

Yes! Me too, it seems to work great! I always used to use blue loctite, and it works good, but you have to not touch the knife for 24 hours to let it fully cure. The teflon tape is just slap it on and your good! Thanks for the recommendation.

I accidently posted the same pic twice in my last post, I changed it to a pic of the threads. I'm sure you guys have all seen it before though anyway.

Agreed, plumbers tape is the way to go. Also really like that he uses t20 for the pivot and t10 for the body screws with a pressed in pivot. Never have to worry about stripping or accidentally scratching the knife with the screw driver. Also awesome that’s they’re so easy to break down and put back together.

Well my birthday is next week so I took the liberty of snagging a frame lock VECP off the FB group. Been itching to try one since I got my Talos and I haven't bought a new knife since the beginning of December. Currently telling myself that whichever is my least favorite between the Talos, VECP, and Defiant 7 Servo will be on the chopping block but I've been known to pause my "one in/one out" policy from time to time. Whether something else goes or the collection grows I'm excited!

Congratulations bro and happy early birthday! Personally I prefer the vecp over the v2 talos. But I’m still a little salty about the smaller size of the new talos and it’s just a tad small for my mits. I’d highly recommend trying out a Myna and MK3 though. Both very different from the vecp and talos. And if ever given the chance don’t pass up on the OG Talos!

Thanks! I'd like to try them all eventually but silly things like vehicle repairs and insurance and sick pets and a mortgage keep diverting my knife funds elsewhere 😅

NOT an easy decision to make....... yet nice to be in a position to be able. Happy Birthday early!
