The Les George Knives Thread

Thanks! I'd like to try them all eventually but silly things like vehicle repairs and insurance and sick pets and a mortgage keep diverting my knife funds elsewhere šŸ˜…
Definitely know the feeling. I’ve been on the one in one out rule for a while now. And I’m down to not having any left to send out.

Happy hump day, Blade Forums! Here is a fairly recent acquisition of mine, a custom M3. I previously owned one very similar to this, sold it, regretted the decision, and was fortunate to get another chance at one about a year later.

I wish I knew exactly what the Damascus pattern was. It's close to "Lizard," but it's not an exact enough match for me to feel fully confident. Les doesn't know for sure either as he told Chad to "make something that would look cool on a dagger" and this was the result. Those two maniacs are perfect for one another.

My first Talos. Every bit as great as I was hoping it would be.

Well I went to bed last night expecting my VECP to be out for delivery this morning. It arrived in Denver yesterday which is usually the last big stop before my local hub and delivery the next day. Woke up this morning to a scan in Colorado Springs which is about 150 miles in the opposite direction of where it should have gone :(

I feel your pain. Last week, I had a package do a complete 360Āŗ tour through the states that surround mine, including several places that were hundreds of miles past where I live from the shipping location, and to several places I have never had a package go before. USPS is a junkshow, and it seems to be getting worse lately.

Well, the VECP made it to me Saturday. While I do like it, I think I like the Talos more, at least for now. Took me a while to figure out exactly where I needed to put my thumb to deploy the VECP while the Talos just feels natural. The other thing that is maybe jading my enjoyment of the knife a bit is that it was advertised as having a great action, the seller said the best of the many VECPs he had owned...that's because the pivot was loose and there was a fair amount of blade play. Unfortunately tightening it up enough to remove all blade play makes the action extremely tight, and setting it where the action feels great results in some blade play. I disassembled and cleaned it, put teflon tape on the pivot screw, and made micro adjustments until I was questioning whether I actually moved anything or not and I just can't get it dialed in. With my Talos on the other hand it was an easy setup that didn't take much fiddling to get a great action and no blade play. With the VECP tuned the way I have it there is a small (probably acceptable to most) amount of blade play that can be eliminated by squeezing the lockbar after the knife is open. Contemplating whether it's worth talking to Les about sending it in or just passing it along. Don't tell my wife but I bought a Monkey Edge Frag MK3 Saturday night šŸ˜‚

So those magnacut vecps are relatively new. There’s a chance it still needs to be broken in. Especially if the previous owner was running it with a loose pivot. However, even brand new the action is still relatively good to great. I’d start with asking Les to send you out some new washers. Maybe you got a bad one in there.

Congrats on that mk3! That’s a great one! Got mine with me today.

It just feels like an on/off switch messing with the pivot. The smallest possible adjustment I can make takes it from flicking with ease and dropping to my thumb when the lock is released to taking a firm, intentional flick to open and the blade staying fully open when the lock is released. Not that I bought it to be a fidget toy but the action is part of the appeal. If I could get the action to match my Talos that was also brand new just a couple months ago I'd be a happy camper. When the VECP is tightened enough to remove all blade play, I wouldn't describe the action as good to great and it doesn't feel like something that breaking in will fix. It has to be really locked down before there is no discernible blade play. There's a window of adjustment where the action is tighter than what I think should be normal and there is still some wiggle if you grab the blade in one hand and the handle in the other.

What is the best way to contact Les? Via his website or should I just reach out on Facebook?

Anyone else have a similar problem of thinking whatever LG is in the pocket just might be your favorite?

Nope - the Myna is hands-down my favorite. ;) Now, deciding between the VECP and Talos is a much tougher decision - and they're both now among my favorite thumb-stud folders in life.

Just got this Servo in over the weekend. It absolutely gives the Myna a run for its money for flipper action. Wow this thing is smooth - and like the Myna, no annoying speedbump to overcome on the close. Ergos are spot-on, too.

Well if you ever get the itch to sell this one, I’m your huckleberry! I can only dream of such a sweet piece.

I absolutely love my Myna, but nothing is smoother than these Servos in my opinion.IMG_0168.jpeg

So it is literally a 1/32ā€ of a turn from blade play to no blade play. I just barely tighten till I eliminate the blade play and then leave it there. But I do adjust to not having any blade play at all. I agree having the action dialed in to be as smooth as possible is a big part of the appeal.

I usually contact Les via instagram but I’m sure he’s also readily available via facebook.

Couldn’t agree more when I have the myna in my hands šŸ˜‚. It’s definitely my favorite new knife. As far as the Talos goes I’m a huge fan of the OG Talos. Not so much of the new one. Too close to a vecp imo. Yet to try the servos but will eventually. I also highly recommend upgrading to some skiffs on the myna.

Great...now I have to track down an OG Talos (I have to say though, I do love the new one). This thread is really hurting my bank account...it took me quite a while to find that Servo after norcalAF norcalAF said it would be up my alley (and is it ever).

Right. On my knife there's probably a 1/32 turn from great action with blade play to tight action with blade play, then another 1/32 turn to no blade play and almost unflickable action. I shot Les a message on Facebook to ask his thoughts on the matter.

Definitely a must have. It’s a bigger knife with a 3.75ā€ blade which really seperates it from the vecp. The grip on the OG is perfect for my mitts while the new talos is just a little cramped.

So it’s definitely the pivot being too tight and not the detent? The detent can be adjusted by bending the lockbar ever so lightly to decrease the tension on it. If it’s in the pivot then I’d reach out to Les. I’d probably try new washers before I sent it in to him though. I tend to not mail off knives unless it’s absolutely necessary.
