The Les George Knives Thread

I already know lol just felt like being a dork on this lovely Sunday. It’s nice to rest and play on the internet, this week has been rough on a heating guy!
I switch between heat pump and propane furnace when it gets to about 35 or below. I don't know the exact crossover point where it's most economical, but I think it's probably not far off.

It depends on how fancy that heat pump is but either way they still say it’s cheaper to let that heat pump do all that it can do as opposed to straight electric resistance heat. Not too sure about how that figures into propane usage. Once again it depends on the efficiency of your furnace. With a system that takes propane it’s definitely in your best interest to have a minimum of a 96% efficiency furnace. I know that propane can get expensive so it’s definitely best
To squeeze all that heat out that you can. It’s a big difference in savings.

Mine's 96% or better. (Single stage, dual fuel) No resistance strips. EmHeat is the propane furnace.

Once it gets down to the teens, the heat pump stays on a long time to try to keep up with the drop in temp. I think it will call up EmHeat if it stays 3 degrees below the setting. (I keep them at 67 / 75 for heat and cooling)

I could probably let it go lower, but electric ain't cheap now either, though we are rated better than "efficient" homes in the area.

im all electric down here. heat strips aren't really needed. except for code really and maybe defost a bit and emergency backup....but it never gets that cold down here for very long. the heat pump can grab enough heat to maintain warmth for the cold down here.

if I lived up north like y'all, id have dual fuel. I dont see a good enough reason not to. id also figure out where the cost break is...so that i squeeze heat pump electric down as far as I could go before ng/propane was cheaper. course electric prices keep going up so at some point that won't make sense to rely heavily on electric heat in the milder cold temps. not sure if we are there yet, but we will be as data centers gobble more power and we have to pay more for ours......

Wow that Servo is beautiful...there's a strange break in the pattern running on a diagonal across the pivot that kind of drives my OCD crazy, but man that is a tempting one. If my fancy VECP wasn't out for delivery today I'd definitely be trying for one of those tomorrow, and I'm still considering giving it a shot. I hope to see more of that blade shape from both Les and Defiant.

Guys, you cannot link to vendors which are not site supporters. House rules. Discuss the knives, leave out the links.

Post your VECP, once you get it today.

My apologies boss - won't happen again!
