Here is my BK17. I stripped it, put a patina on it, and made custom maple scales for it.

Here it is showing the size of tracks:

Yay BK&T!

Here is what is in my sheath:

Top to bottom:
BK17 (duh)
Ferro rod, case, and striker
Mini-Altoids tin with cotton balls and vaseline, Esbit cube, and fatwood
Buck 425 Mini-Buck

What do you all keep in your sheaths?

Sweet post, and thanks for sharing. I had no intentions of getting a 17 until I saw these dirty pictures. :)

Nice 17! Interesting kit too. I'll have to look around for a smaller tin that fits that sheath...

I tend to switch it up between a Victorinox Farmer or a sharpening stone inside the pouch on my BK16 sheath, depending on where I'm going or what I'm planning to do.

Thanks! The BK17 is awesome--small enough to be easy to carry, but big enough for serious tasks. I stabbed the tip straight into hard ice to dig the 4 inch hole shown in picture 3. It completed it in less than 1 minute, with no tip/edge damage!

My mom buys sugar free Altoids (she's allergic to cane sugar.) They come in the tiny tins, which are the perfect size for the sheath pocket.

nice patina. It seems the 17 hasn't gotten some love around here for a while...

Great post! I don't keep anything in my bk16 sheath but when I hall the 16 around a usually have the bk9 on my belt and the bk9 has an Altoids tin with the following : Light my fire scout, magnifying glass, waxed cord that the big man himself gave me. I never pack tinder because I'm skilled enough with feather sticks to build a fire in a storm with a Ferro rod.

I love the looks of your bk17!

How do you sharpen your bk's?

Nice pics. Looks like a lot of fun. Now go to BF and get your name changed to spydercobenchmadekaibecker........just to demonstrate that you've covered all the bases, LOL

;)

Nice! That looks awesome!!! What type of maple, any idea?

I don't know exactly what type of maple. It came from giant slabs cut from dead maple trees from city parks. The slabs are about 5 feet in diameter and 8 to 10 inches thick. I have split some to use for knife scales and firewood, while the others will be used for outdoor tables.

I decided to build a fire today using only what I had in the BK17 sheath.

Cotton balls and Vaseline helping the Fero rod start it:

It works!
