Haha, thanks, but it's not that great. I tried convexing it on mousepads/sandpaper, but I need a little more practice. I have sharpened it enough now that a tiny recurve is showing--I'm working on making that go away.

Hold the knife almost flat and the paper and use lite pressure!

She got some good use on a recent trip:

Shelter building:

The patina that I started with apple cider vinegar, mustard, and lemon juice has turned natural. The pine resin seems to be developing the patina nicely.

A few glory shots:

Many people seem to think that the tip on the BK17 is/would be very weak. I belive otherwise, and I did this test to prove its strength.

I used the tip to pry small pieces of wood out of a block:

Here is how deep the resulting hole is:

No tip damage!

Thanks! The 17 is my favorite BK that I have other than the 9. I don't take the king to scouts, on hikes, etc. because it is large and "scary," but the 17 is "just right." It can baton any size kindling, chop small sticks, feather stick (if I could ), and handle any regular camp task such as food prep.

Great looking blade and thanks for all the beautiful picks. I'm trying to decide which knife will be my first tweener. I'm curious did you etch that logo at all before you stripped the blade? I want to strip my blades but have been having a bit of trouble coming up with a good way to etch first/not sure if I'm gonna etch the logos.

That looks like a sweet knife. How do you like it compared to other Beckers? Is the handle big enough?

Worldwood hammered the tip of a 17 all the way through a quarter and the tip survived just fine. There were photos posted up a while back somewhere around here. Kabar heat treat is excellent.

Thanks. The logos were always like that--I didn't etch them. I just stripped the blade and forced a patina with apple cider vinegar and mustard.

IMO, it is the most versatile size for a fixed blade. The handle is perfect for me.

I belive it! This knife just won't die.

Cool. I want one. I have been throwing around the idea of a 10, but I have a RAT-5 which is simular in size. I also have a RAT-3 which is a littl to small for what I want. This BK-17 seems like it would be a great all around knife. I like my BK-7, but it is a little large for regular hicking in the woods.

SkyBenKai ~~ you went & did it --- now I have to go out in the morning & get a 17 .. dag nag-it ~~ & I just said the other day that I was not going get another Knife of any kind till 5/1/14 as I have just been buying to many this year so far.**
Knives & Guns are going to be the death of me.^^^^^!!!!!

Thanks! :)

It truly is an "all around" knife. You won't regret getting one.
