The Life of a Boys Knife (GEC #15)

That is a great looking knife. I really like the long nail nicks they put on some of their knives.

This thread is killing me, I've gotta get my hands on one of these soon!!! Anyone know if there's a GEC dealer in Florida (LOL)?

This is my first GEC product, so all Ihad to go on was other people's impressions about GEC pulls. For what it's worth, mine is easily openable, but definitely stiffer than the average of all the Cases I have. I like it, though. The pull and spring strength is reminiscent of Vic Pioneers - strong enough to be very comforting. Plus, I love the authoritative "snick" upon opening and closing.

This is my first knife with a long pull. I noticed that I need a little different technique opening the main blade, since there is no space for the blade to rotate on the thumbnail, like there is on a regular curved nail nick.

Overall, my impression is, "whoa." This is probably the nicest knife I own.

Edit to add that this is also the oiliest new knife I have ever received. It took a good wipedown and wash to get the preservative off the wood and blades. But that was a nice touch, as well. Shows they care, like the heavy wax paper.
Great review Blaine. I agree with you on the pull being similar to the pioneer. Problem with gec is that it is tough to just have one :)

I like the #15 and feel like it'll prove to be a good performer for GEC. As others have stated when you first purchase a GEC you just notice a bunch of subtle differences (everything from the packaging to the knife itself) that make it a world apart from other traditional knife companies. The heft, healthy pull, as well as the old timer butcher paper, is just a different experience. I hope to try this one out, seeing as it's about the right length, and can be had in a single blade.

I think you will be happy with it. I have loved carrying it so far

Ssssooo, I folded and bought a new 15 in ebony. I just missed out on another deal on a well known auction site and couldn't resist any longer so I grabbed one at my favorite dealer.

In any event, don't dismiss the signature... Still lookin'.

Hopefully one comes your way, good luck

I must say, all the posts about this knife are making it hard to resist. I'm just hoping they'll still have some ebony ones left when I finally have to money to start buying knives again. :D

I've still seen a few around yet. Hopefully it stays that way for a little while

Time for an updated picture. Hope to add a few more today when I get my better camera out :)

And we're resisting why, again?

;)

Well, it's a choice between a new knife or helping keep the house. If there's no house, then I don't have a place to keep the knives:p.

I wonder what the chances are of GEC making this model in some other handle scale materials.

Got my good camera out to take some decent pictures I think. They represent the knife well I think :)
