The life of a Case peanut from Day 1

Just read the whole thread, great story Mark, now I have a few peanuts, a Queen, a Schrade Uncle Henry and I believe an old Case, (I'll have to look) so tomorrow when I get up, I'm slippin' one in my pocket.

As far as the rancher, farmer, logger fantasies, I've been a Mechanic/Millwright/Fabricator/Machinist/Desk Jockey for 40+ years and lived on farms, junkyards and apartments, for the last 20+ years I've lived on 7 1/2 acres of wooded land, 1 mile from the Delaware River with a creek that runs through the middle of my property.

In the last 5 months I've had to cut up 15 trees 75' or taller, replaced two motors in two separate cars cleaned up massive debris from two major floods and two major snow storms.

Boy no wonder I'm so tired, my point is I don't think in my day to day life I could get by with just a peanut, my trend to carry a smaller traditional knife, (usually a pen) has become more of a habit and even though it does do the bulk of my daily cuttin' tasks, I wouldn't risk it on the bigger jobs where a larger folder or even a fixed blade would be better.

Mark I enjoyed your thread and look forward to the continuin' tale and Jack I always love your stories and imput on the forums.

Now to go decide what Peanut to carry tomorrow. :)

Nice story showing the changes along the way, Mark. I read the whole thing a few days ago, just after I had ordered my first peanut. It arrived today, and I didn't even get a pristine shot of it. The first picture I took was after it had cut through some olives and peppers. The main blade already is developing some patina.

As requested, here are some shots I took this morning on my way to work .....

Nice peanut... I like it. I have one in cv but wirh yellow delrin scales... Haven't edc it yet.

I will keep eye on this thread.

Great thread mnblade, keep up the good work , or should I say wear. :D

Great pictures Mark. Thanks for the update. My chestnut bone peanut is an almost daily companion.

This is OT, so send me a message off the forum if you care to respond. Your iPhone obviously takes very good pictures, much better than my BlackBerry. My contract is up and I'm considering a switch of platform, so I would be interested to hear your opinion of the iPhone.

Good going Mark!

Love the natural progression of the pocket wear on the scales and patina of the blade. Showing the aging process very well.

Carl.

You know what's funny? This knife really is still pretty much off-the-shelf new, as compared to some of the knives we remember our grandfathers (and, Carl, of course your dad) carrying. I mean, what's two or three years? I feel like other than a few cosmetic scratches and some patina on the blade, it's still in perfect shape. Maybe my son will continue this thread years from now, after I'm pushing up daisies from a pine box.

That seems to be more common than not. I've been carrying my damascus peanut now for over a year, every single day. A few little scratches in the bolsters, maybe a tiny bit of darkening of the raindrop pattern in the blade, but aside from all that, looks like the day I got it. I can only think that true pocket worn takes decades instead of just years. Like maybe a lifetime of carry to look really like it has been carried for a lifetime.
Carl.

That 'nut is already a beauty! The scales are nicely worn out and the blade has a nice patina. The blades are already sharpened down a little bit.

A real user! Thank you for updating this post. I think, I also need a Peanut in CV, that patina is really nice!

Kind regards
Andi :)

Got a question for ya, Mark. Did your pen blade, due to sharpening, lose a little of its belly out toward the tip and get a little more pointy, or is it just the camera angle that makes it look that way? Looks good regardless.

I was going to ask the same think, Coyote, That pen blade looks like it's been well used.

Regardless, the little peanut looks awesome. My chestnut bone sure has some catching up to do. It's almost been a year since i got it. Maybe I'll stick with it instead of switching to yellow delrin. Either way, there can only be one. Thanks for updating this thread, its definitely one of my favorites

Actually, none of the above. I haven't sharpened that blade all that much. When I bought this one, I actually bought two (got a little hair-triggered on that big auction site, and sort of accidentally bought a second one). When I got 'em, I decided to keep this one because I liked the little light spot on the handle you can see here ...

At any rate, one thing I did notice was that the pen blade on this particular knife was markedly more slender than on the one I eventually sold off. It didn't bother me at all -- in fact I kind of preferred it this way. But it is kind of odd, though, that the Case QC folks would let two of the same model out of the factory with such different pen blades. Not something you'd ever see with Victorinox.

Thanks Mark. That's strange and interesting ... but, it looks like a great little pen blade nonetheless - congtrats! ;)
