Well finally the snow came. I closed up shop early and got in the jeep to go home. Funny how everyone forgets how to drive in incliment weather.

Anyway I decided to take a detour and get some pics of the lake. There were alot less drivers on that route which was good.

More coming.

It started to come down really hard so I got back in the car.

As I continued to drive home I thought; Hell I never started a fire in heavy snow….. So I made a pit stop!

Found a decent rock to help with cover, cleared out an area, and laid some sticks down. There were a bunch of pine trees in the area, so I used the dry lil branches from there base as kindling. I didn’t take a lot of time to find tinder, although I ran into some cedar trees. The bark was really wet and I figured it will take some time to dry it out. I opted to use the PJCB’s in my kit. I used a big wad, probably more than necessary; but I wanted to insure I would get a fire.

Snow flakes kept falling on the cotton, but after 5 or 6 strikes of my LMF scout, it sizzled a lil then took.

A lil nurturing and I had a decent fire going. This was good as I left my gloves in the car and my hands were getting really cold!

I warmed up for about 10 minutes and went back happy that I had PJCB’s in my kit.

Look I can turn the flash off and get a better pic.... Duh!

Interesting choice of words here, seeing how someone else tried something similar while also forgetting his gloves.
Great pics.

Looks cold, but fun! I moved back to the desert to avoid that kind of weather, but I've got almost that much snow outside my house right now anyways:foot:
It'll be gone soon though:thumbup:

Thanks Tony...I am thinking of a nice little outing tomorrow..if you werent 3 hours away..we could get together and go for a big hike. Gene

Cool pics Tony!!! You should have gone for a swim and then shown us how you climb onto the ice.

Thanks Norcal.

I have a question for you; as I think I remember Brian saying your an Arborist.

Why would someone wrap this tree in aluminum like this?

Mike and I think it has something to do with that nest up there.

Here’s my shot of that nest.

My bet is someone put the aluminum on the tree to prevent any animals from being able to climb the tree and get to the nest. That, or it's part of and alien spaceship. Nice pic's.

From what I can tell and your observations it seems like a way to stop rodents from climbing up it and protect whatever kind of bird/eggs was nesting there. Thats cool they used wood grain aluminum to help camo it.
