The loss of a favorite and disappointment in a friend...

Finally the dreaded happened. Friends came over last night and, as per normal, immediately flock to my knives and begin haphazardly playing with them (Usually I'm good about hiding them before anyone gets there, but this was unexpected). I had watched my good friend drop my Blue Bump on my carpert a couple times playing with it, but I let it slide. He went to his truck to go get something and he was playing with it, and I kindly cautioned him that it was a very nice knife and to be careful. Well, when he got back, he handed me a very scratched up Blue Bump...and told me that nothing had happened. I was clearly displeased, and ten minutes later he came back to my room and admitted he had dropped it on the concrete. I was very disappointed, as he's a close friend (not that he dropped it, that he had lied...), but he paid the full price for the knife and he is now the proud owner of a very functional, but scratched up Bump.

So I'm a little heartbroken at the loss of one of my absolute favorites and of course, the lie wasn't helpful. But now I must replace it. I'm tempted to just buy another, but I think I shall resist.

I've got 150 dollars to find a new favorite. I don't mind spending over 200, but I don't want a custom or a sebenza. My criteria is that it be EDC size and that it has to be gorgeous and flashy. The Bump would have wanted it that way...

Commiserations!
You know my blue ti bump's my fave too. But consider you might have got it scratched yusself.
Seb? Not to disappoint you as a friend,
but are you sure you have enough KOs? Like the Offset? Or the Chef's knife?
best,
t.

Well, aside from that I take pristine care of certain knives, this being one of them, he actually admitted to me away from the others that he had dropped it in the parking lot.

The offset is cool, and tempting, but it's just too big and too wild. I did ask for flashy, but that clip is just over the top. They have a G10 handled one coming out, and had it an uncoated blade too, it'd be a real contender, but as it stands, it's too big and too much. I don't think Kershaw has anything for me this time, but maybe I'm overlooking something. Now if I could just pony up a few k for a real KO.

I have dropped my knives plenty of time on concrete, black top and what have you. Never scratched it up to the point that I thought it was ruined. Matter of fact I was working on my bike during the late summer and was laying on my right side with my MOD Tempest in the pocket. I was going back and forth for some reason on my side. I could feel something scratching on the blacktop but having a brain fart didn't think nothing of it. Well got up from what I was doing and realized it was my MOD scraping on the tar. I was totally bummed thinking my knife was hosed. Holy crap the thing has just extremely light scratches on the one of the grip scales and the clip is just slightly scratchd. I mean not even worth mentioning to tell the truth. Can't belive just dropping on concrete scratched the hell out of it. Maybe dented the point or something. I mean I would think he was doing something on the concrete with it other than just dropping it. Least you got your dough though. keepem sharp

It wasn't horribly scratched, but on certain knives, there can be no scratches for me, and it happened to be my favorite. It had some small craters in the blade, and the andoziding had been scratched off on the back of it, so it was probably more obvious because the silver was showing through the blue. What can I say, it's my baby. I wouldn't have gotten as upset if he had admitted it, of course...and if I hadn't cautioned him ahead of time that it was valuable to me and to be careful. He dropped it like three times that night, that might be helpful to mention. He dropped it twice more playing with it in my apartment on the carpet.

It's humorous and often scary to watch people that aren't used to holding a knife before...they seem so...incompetent. It's like the knives just jump out of their hands.

I think that is a butt ugly knife. scratches might improve it in my opinion! but then I would just carry a sebenza or strider. scratches smatches!

Get one Ti BUMP while you can, they are a few around.... once they are gone you will miss it.....

Very nice knife, hadn't it been AO and so much recurved I would buy it :)

As for replacement - what about carbon fiber Military?

Price is about the $150 you got for Bump.
It is bigger than common but it's very flat (comfortable for pocket carry) and light (115g) for it's size. Did I mention superb ergonomics?

Did you suggest that he pay for the Bump in-full, or did he voluntarily decide buy it from you? Be honest. :)

If the Military is too long for EDC, how about a Lone Wolf Harsey "T1" in carbon fiber? 4" closed, 3.2" S30V blade, and under 3oz. Not too flashy, but the finish on the carbon fiber makes it look pretty stylish. About $100.

He volunteered after confessing a little later that night.

It's not about the knife, knives come and go, just about the lie. I dropped the subject and we acted as if nothing happened and had a good time for the rest of the night.

I am sorry about the loss of your Blue Bump. It was a beautiful knife. I hope you find something that you will LOVE as much as your Blue Bump. I had a green one myself.

It is always unfortunate when someone you respect and trust lies to you. He did the right thing to admit and pay. You did the right thing to forgive him. I can forgive 99.9% of the time, but I never forget, as that is the best way for these unfortunate things to recur. Maybe you could get some cheap but flashy knives to leave out as decoys for friends with ten thumbs and slow conscious :) .

It's fairly small, but classy and probably even flashy- Mcusta Take:

Mini Skirmish
Combat Elite RRF(not very flashy)
Graham Razel
Zero Tolerance
Bradley Cutlery Alias I or II

I've played with Mcustas in real life and was extremely impressed. They seemed like the poor man's William Henry (I'm referring to the quincewood ones I played with). I really like the bamboo shape handle here too...it makes it onto the list of potentials. Thanks.

Glad I could help. You were one of the first members to help me out when I first got onto these forums. Thank you.

Sorry to hear about the Bump. It’s definitely one of the most beautiful production knives ever.
As for something to replace it, I think you’re best off getting a custom knife to one up the Bump.
Realistically it will be a very long time before you find another knife like that from a production company.

If people handling your knives is enough of a problem, Maybe you should
consider getting a locked display case. It might be worth your while.

one of my buds was looking at a LNIB protech godfather carbon fibre handle satin blade and when he fired it it jumped outta his hand onto the garage floor.

& no he didnt buy it.
