LOS ANGELES (April 6) - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.

He will be sorely missed.

I read about it on another forum when I woke up a couple hours ago. Hollywood loved him until he came out as being Pro-Gun. A lot of people might not realize that he used to be Pro-Gun Control in the 60s. Hollywood and other wackaloon politicos hate nothing more than a traitor and he was a traitor to them. After he started lobbying with the NRA, all of the stories came out about what a clumsy person he was and that he wasn't very "smart" and the rest of it.

I'm glad he didn't suffer as long as some people do with Alzheimer's, what a terrible affliction.

Thats horible news. An icon has passed. He will be missed. Might I suggest a contribution to the NRA for those who arent members already? He did so much in life, his work will live on forever.

sad day indeed, he was definitely a legend, and a friend to the gun community.
RIP charlton heston

RIP, Mr. Heston was one of the few CONSISTENT advocates of civil rights ever in media, from marching with MLK jr. to the NRA, he was one of very few celebrities that stood for all rights!

One of my favorite moments of his!

This was a rough piece of news to wake up to, he will be sorely missed. It was exceptional to see a member of hollywood who represented the things so many of the 'little people' believe in.

Smoke up from Northern AZ for a man who will be very much missed. RIP, Mr. Heston!

he is guarding th gates of heaven.

i hope we should not falter to protect freedom as he did, his career suffered from his convictions and he sacrificed a lot for his beliefs.

The man could deliver a public speech. No teleprompters here...

Too bad.
He was one of the few actors who spoke their own mind, rather than just follow the currents of what's popular.

I am really thankful that the alzheimers didnt make him suffer like I have seen many of my family members suffer. He was an amazing actor and beyond that he was an amazing person. RIP

I too was deeply saddend when I heard this news. Out of most of the actors in Hollywood, I feel Heston was one of the most respectable people around, someone I really admired. I always thought of him as a leader.

RIP Mr. Heston

This is sad news indeed. He was an exceptional human being. Rest in Peace brother Heston
