I think for his time, he had a style and was a "good actor." By today's standards, most of the older actors seem rather "hokey" by comparison.

I'm of "The Boyington School of Appraising People," "Show me a hero and I'll prove he's a bum." So, I go from there and assume they are all bums anyway.
