The Loveless Dixon Fighter

drama abounds

Yunno, while you never asked me to defend you, it WOULD help if you would add something of value to online discussion once in a while, instead of making it look like I am sticking up for a monosyllabic knuckle dragging Guido with an attitude.

At your service, and,

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

STeven,
Thats the nicest thing you have ever called me:D

Mike thinks I dissed him, which upsets me because I am a big fan of his knives.

I actually own a few small pieces, and had one on order before he disappeared.

I think he is one of the very best at "doing" Loveless. I am sure that in time he will realize that my comment was merely a compliment.

When Mike sticks with the facts no one can touch him for Loveless knife knowledge or passion. I never said Mike was a liar.
When Mike goes off the reservation, loses his temper, has a "failure to communicate" and basically melts down and storms off (kind of like he did here), well he just alienates people who like his knives. I know he is hurting right now too, so sorry Mike if you misunderstood.

As far as the Fitch thread, well I and others lurking about BFC could probably write a novella about those shenanigans, but that would be sooo cynical.

Remember, the truth only hurts when its true.

I thank you sir.

While I have never been accused of being tight with the words, you have an artform developed around a minimum character required post.:D

While we have this witty repartee going...I would like it, and consider it a personal favor, if you would share that massive storehouse of knife knowledge you have in your cranium from time to time, as if you were being paid by the word, rather than feeling like you were giving too much away.

I know you, Roger knows you, Thomas knows you....a lot of the Forumites do not.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I don't spend NEARLY as much time here as I used to, for various reasons, mostly related to boredom and personal apathy related to the unyielding and never-ending drama and chicanery surrounding handmade knives. But I will try.

Thanks....I get it, really.

BUT....this is YOUR community, and if you don't participate....you get replaced by some know-nothing Johnny-come-lately douchebag(NO Kevin, I am not referring to you, so don't get mad at me).

The only way to ensure that we have quality information is to be a part of providing it.

Man, I REALLY get that sentiment - but I echo what STeven said. You have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share. I hope you do.

For the most part, it really isn't never-ending drama, and chicanery surrounding handmade knives.

It is the drama and chicanery surround handmade knives here on BF. Elsewhere, the water is just fine!

(If I had spelled Handmade, Handmake, Steven would have slammed me. Just one more example) BF is what it is. Nothing more, nothing less. Sadly, many times, much less.

I will drop in from time to time on the makers forum, as many ask for help and advice.

But obviously, this section has become a collector, dealer, and bash any maker that post section. Especially any newer maker.

Too little time. Too much BS.

Hi Anthony,

Steven articulated (nicely) what also has been my thoughts on your involvement. I know you have contributed enormously in the past and have a wealth of knowledge, but just as I hated those green chiclets because they alluded to a hierarchy, I find that each and every current post is a testimony to a member's status.

Looking forward to the 'pay by word' accounting you can deliver. ;)

Mike, one of the greatest things MEN do is to leave the bullshit behind when we're gone and arrive back with a fresh outlook.

I tell the boys I coach, I have a mind like a fish: I forget the bad, three seconds after it's happened, and I move on without hanging onto grudges.

You can do the same here, believe it. I hope so. Like the others poked, you have much to offer.

In my old M/C Shop I created a large sign we hung over the door to the mechanic's bays: No one goes unpunished! Take your lumps willingly and often. :p

There have been more than a few times that you have basically said that the collector doesn't matter, because you are making knives for yourself. While I understand the sentiment, the way you put it is insulting, and the pinnacle of arrogance(all the while claiming that BladeForums is rife with arrogance).

I only jump on your atrocious spelling because it is easily remedied by enabling spellcheck....but you seem unwilling to make the effort.

I called you last week and left a message with my return number.....had hoped to cool down whatever heat you are feeling from my end....but you should know, there is NOTHING that I have written on these forums that I wouldn't say right to your face....and I'm proud that I didn't stoop to name calling.

As I have said before, because a maker can use BladeForums for free(or low-cost) advertising and promotion, and many do benefit GREATLY from that, it is only reasonable to expect that someone with a legitimate negative experience or observation should be free to post that. BladeForums is the biggest knife forum on the internet....if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.

The Dixon Fighter is an amazingly attractive pattern, and I hope since we are having a discussion about it here, that more makers working in the Loveless Style will attempt it.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Steven, I have seen you miss spell more than once. Not to mention, incorrect punctuation. But as I am not a Teacher, and is none of my business.
I have more important things to worry about.

If you are insulted by anything I have said. Good! It's about time you were on the receiving end. Your revel in insulting people here.

I think it's cool when a knife maker names a knife in honour of the the knife's owner.

I keep coming back to the signature. As powerful a statement as the design.

Buddy, I applaud your skills. You gave this one mucho appeal.

Thanks, Coop. I agree - when I saw the sheath I knew it had to be a big part of the picture. From a design perspective, when you put it all together there's a lot of Loveless attitude there.

It is a fantastic photo of a very lovely knife. I like the rich background. In fact the whole composition of the photo I find pleaseing.

I enjoy what I would call flat background photos but I really enjoy dimensional layouts like this one.

By the way my spelling and sentence composition sucks and I don"t care :D

By the way Coop around here I tell my kids the same thing but my memory really is that bad :D

If I'm not mistaken, the only Loveless fighter actually called a "Dixon" is one with a 5 3/4" blade. Mike may call that 6" above because he might be including the ricasso. The 6 1/2" fighter is less common and, IMHO, a little prettier.

Isn't the "Dixon" blade also slightly wider than the 6 1/2" fighter Blade?

Both Dixon fighters that I have had came with 5 7/8" blades EXACTLY...one was made last year, the other two weeks before Bob died.

A blade is ALWAYS measured from the guard forward, not the sharpened edge.

I was never quite sure if I was giving the right measurement on my knives. Better to be lucky than good.

Steven, thanks for that little tid bit of information.
