The Lynch MOB came for me today!

Almost done with the sheath- finally! Two evenings spent stitching this beast, and some very raw hands. But I'm toughening up.

This is ten ounce leather and it's four layers thick at the welt. When all the fine tuning is finished, I'll be sealing it as I always do, with Snoseal.

I think I'll probably spend a little time filing, carving and sanding the sheath to make it look a little nicer even though it's going to see some tough times out in the forest.

Once the beeswax sealant is applied, the leather hardens up a bit, and the knife will lock right in with a nice click. I doubt I'll install a permanent keeper strap, as the knife is so heavy and the fit is so tight that I doubt I'll need it. But when I need to make sure for sure that the knife will not fall out, I've been in the habit of using a velcro strap to secure it into the sheath. It's nice not having a keeper strap in that they often get sliced and otherwise can get in the way.

um, I'm pretty sure there was something in the air which caused the wandering threads- like a kind of a smoke or mist...;)

But...it could just be a lack of skill:D
At any rate, it looks shitty but I'm ok with it.

I use a dremel tool freehand to drill the holes for the thread to go through. The thicker the sheath, the less apparent accuracy I have. But I am getting better!

The front looks great, so when I decide to sell this sheath I'll make sure I only take pictures of the front:D
:jerkit:just kidding!

I thought this would take forever, and it might still, but the hole drilling and stitching are done, and that is the part that fills me with the most dread, (of screwing up). Can't wait to finish this up and move on to the next project!

Good looking sheath Lorien!!

On a couple I've made recently I've gone to using copper belting rivets instead of stitching in order to save time.

Can't wait till September when my name will come up on Tad's list.

I like copper rivets too. In fact, I will probably employ them in this sheath as well as stitching just for that peace of mind, (maybe 'piece' is the better word to use, seeing as that's generally all I have left after a day of work:D)

Lorien

Thanks for posting the "who is Tad Lynch" thread. Thanks to that thread I;m happily awaitng a knife from him. Thanks for introducing me to his work.

Now if I can just keep form ordering one like yours instead.

I truly like both knives. Congratulations. The maker's attitude speaks volumes of his standing as a person. I'd have some Micarta on the smaller knife and call it perfect. Thanks for posting.

Mike, I highly recommend the MOB, and I'm not just saying that because I'm biased:) Field tests show this knife to be a great performer:thumbup:

I got the sheath done!

The back doesn't look quite as bad now that it's waxed. Ok, it looks bad. But it won't fall apart at least.

These stitches look pretty good.

Actualy a very good job on the sheath Lorien! The design is very sound. Myself I would figure out some way to secure the knife into the sheath with a lanyard for when I go down rough country.
