I'm relatively quiet on these forums but I've been a long time lurker. Over the last few years I've owned quite a few, what I would consider very nice knives nothing super high end but I eventually worked my way into the ~$200 price range...Zero Tolerance 0350, 0566bw, and a 0562. Benchmade mini griptilian, 707 and a 940, two Kershaw Cryos, and a Sog mini Aegis.

All of the aforementioned knives except for the 0566 have been either returned or sold. For one reason or another I just couldn't bond with them. For some I couldn't justify the price (Osborne) and others I felt like I was going to break (Sog) but most where either just too big or too heavy for me to edc.

A little insight as to why. I'm a strength coach at a local gym. I spend the majority of my day moving around teaching exercises and working out. My primary attire consists of lightweight athletic shorts, sneakers and a t-shirt.
If you throw a ZT 0350 on a pair of running shorts...you're gonna feel it, as it it damn near pulls them down.

So what is a fella to do? I'm at the point in my life now I don't leave the house without 1. My phone 2. My wallet 3. My knife 4. My sunglasses. I've carried a knife most of my adult life and feel naked not having one on me.

About two months ago I was on YouTube and stumbled across a knife that really intrigued me. Initially I was hesitant because it was sub 3 inches (I had it in my mind anything less was useless, sorry Cryos) and it was a brand I had no experience with. The more videos I watched the more I wanted one, I started reading and watching reviews and they were all positive, I had to get one.

I jumped over to Amazon, threw the one I knew I wanted in my cart and two days later (thanks Amazon Prime) I had a package at my door.

The Dragonfly 2. For me this is the perfect knife. I'm not really tough on my knives (opening boxes, mail, etc) so I didn't NEED the zdp 189 but I figured why not...besides, green is my favorite color.

I have carried this knife every day since I got it and I'm completely enamored with it. I clip it inside my waistband around 4 o'clock and it just dissappears until I need it. I have yet to feel like I'm under equipped with it and it still has a shaving sharp edge. I think it is the one to cure the madness...only problem is, I want another one.

Welcome to the Spyderco fanclub! The Dragonfly is a superb knife. It is the only one my wife will carry and she has two. I have 6 of them. The G10 version is especially nice, but it is a tad heavier than yours, but the foliage green G10 is great.

Come on over to the Spyderco Sub-forum here on BF and meet some nice and very knife knowledgeable people.

Congrats! I think the FRN Dragonfly was a great choice for you! I carry one IWB quite often when wearing exercise shorts. It's so light you can't even tell it's there!

Congrats on your DF2! They're great knives.

Might I suggest that you take a good long look at the H1 version, as it will stand up to sweat better and you mentioned clipping it to running shorts while you work?

I think this is what I'm leaning towards primarily due to the rust resistance. My biggest draw to the knife is just how light it is so I'm not really interested in the heavier G-10 although it looks cool. It seems like changing the scales is pretty straight forward, where's the beat place to look for some?

Good choice!
I have ab superblue, and i carry it every day.

The Dragonfly is excellent. If you get the H1 version, consider the fully serrated blade. I carry it often as a secondary blade, and the thing is like a tiny chainsaw. I love it.

Excellent choice all around.
I watch people at work all the time struggle with their 3.5" and larger blades.

I see the appeal of H1 since it doesn't rust but I find it really only necessary around saltwater and I'm in a very humid area. I also find it dulls very quickly and just doesn't hold up to much use. Since it is a work hardening steel the serrated versions are supposed to stay sharp much longer. I have one but haven't gotten to use it enough to see if it stays sharp long enough for my likes.

I've had a few H1 knives and they dulled more like a gas station knife than a quality piece of cutlery. Just my experience.

If you like lightweight maybe look at the Benchmade 530/531. Good size Axis lock knife that weighs less than 2 ounces.

Ive had 2 serrated edged H1 versions. Awesome knife. My newest HAP40 plain edge has only seen a light duty and already has a chip in the blade 👎

Flithy, i am in a situation almost identical to yours and my ultralight weight carry is an emerson waved delica or an orange Wharncliff Urban.

Dragonfly 189

Isn't that a GREAT knife !
Careful with 189 it will chip cutting wire ties but I just use wire nippers or something else.
Makes me want a green 189 Endura . . . someday. I will always keep the Dragonfly; like you said.

Mine is MIA. Like you, green is my favorite color. I've had no problem with the zdp-189 chipping.

The H1 Salt version is basically rustproof, but doesn't hold its edge nearly as well.

That's my exact summertime carry.
My only gripe is with how difficult it is for me to put an edge on ZDP 189. Once it is sharpened man it holds it for ever though!

My dragonfly got a pretty good workout today. I used it to cut over hanging branches by the driveway, open a new bag of dog food and cut steak for dinner (yes I washed it before and after) Pretty damn good for such a small knife.
