The Magnificent Seven

If, GASP, I could only keep 7 .. could not do it.. closest I could get to was 10 and that is already cutting some dear to me:

Only seven !
Well that was a hellish nightmare. I'm glad I woke up and it wasn't real.
Mostly I am coming at it from a user / function view point.
Exceptions are the Lancer Buck was my Dad's, the Red Bone Boker Stockman I just like to look at and the little Buck 505 Knight has just always been there for the last thirty five plus years; to leave him behind would feel like abandoning a loyal dog.
. . . sorry . . . this is the best I could do (I need the larger two SAKs for working; at home and at the day job).
. . . only seven . . . what 'er yah nuts ? Who can get by with only seven knives ? ? ? ?
This beat me up so bad I had to start a Only Magnificent Seven in the General forum.
I figured I would share my pain with the rest of the world. ;) :(

Oooohh I dunno.
I immediately think of Fonzie trying to apologise but not being able to say the words....truh truhhhmmm?...truuuurmmm the hooeerr...It's no good.
Ironically Kamagongs trimming thread has merely created a new "super herd". And loving it.

I thought this would be hard but it was actually very easy, it took all of 2 minutes tops.
1: Lionsteel Shuffler - I didn't do it for the picture but I would replace the micarta with the santos scales from my Roundhead.
In fact now that I've thought of it, I'm going to post and go change the scales around.
2: Lionsteel shuffler C/F - Two Lionsteels because they are what I carry 80% of the time and if I could only have two the C/F would be #1 pick.
3: GEC #35 Churchill - These two GEC's are usually paired one in the RFP and one in a sheath.
4: GEC #43 Oregon Trapper - If the were stainless they would get used a lot more but they sure are prudy.
5: Canal Street Boys knife - because everyone needs a church, dress knife.
6: Canal Streel Canittler - The best 3 blade ever made.
7: Queen Cutlery Canoe - Single spring, two blades so it's just a pleasure to use and carry.

Victorinox alox Cadet
Victorinos alox Pioneer
Case Peanut
Case Small Texas Jack
Case Stockman (47 pattern)
Case Trapper

Those six would cover all of my actual use cases of a traditional pocket knife.

Let's do a thought exercise. If you had to cull the herd, which ones would you keep?

These are mine. A couple of sentimental favorites, the rest I just really like a lot. They are all perfect-pocketknife-sized at ~ 3 3/4" closed. There is enough variety in the covers and blade shapes to keep me content (I hope).
Those are some very nice knives , especially the Dowell and Ohtas , but they have blades that I am not sure that I would use , but even at that , I guess that I would keep 3 : Ohta , Dowell , and Northfield Stag in that order .
Nice picture too my friend .

Harry

Thanks Harry. I don't favor straight edged blades all that much either, but truth be told, I could make do with any of these for pocketknife purposes. I'm not a heavy user, just a person who likes knives and recognizes their usefulness. The Ohta and the Dowell are there to satisfy the knife nut in me. They're extremely well made and I enjoy holding them in my hand and admiring them, more so than any of the other slipjoints I own.

Alright, I think I've selected my "magnificent seven."

Amazing selection. Every one of those is a "keeper".
