Riverwarrior`s Cab-N-Muk. I thought this design was interesting enough to get it`s own thread. Hopefully Riverwarrior will explain his thoughts on this design.

The drawing Riverwarrior sent me. I`m always thankfull when I receive a drawing with this much detail.

The cutout laid onto the steel for tracing.

The joys of still not having a bandsaw. I drill a series of holes around the tracing to avoid having to grind too much.

The knife blank all profiled out.

WOW....John, I can't thank you enough for bringing my designs to life and then creating this thread so I can view the "making of" the blade.

In years past, I've found myself, many times, in a cabin/camp setting looking for a knife to use in the kitchen, but always finding a blade that was either dull or completely useless for the task needed. So the idea behind the "Cab-N-Muk" was to have a cabin/kitchen blade that could be used for a variety of tasks in the kitchen setting as well as using it for light bushcrafting if needed.

I wanted a blade that was top heavy for chopping, and I also wanted a resting place for the thumb to where I could do close in food prep or bushcrafting.

I also wanted to naturally extend my index finger on the spine of the blade, so I had a flat section that would allow my finger to naturally extend flat on the spine while chopping food, etc.

A while back, I showed a good friend of mine this design and, turns out, he was actually looking for a cabin/kitchen food prep type of blade. Now, he is buying this design which will be serial number two (thanks brother).

Again, John thanks so much for your time and service on this design. I can't wait to see it.

Not to hijack but that's pretty much the reason I came up with my nessy design.:D Kitchen use with a side of bushcrafty stuff. I wanted a little extra blade length then I usually carry to snap cut blackberry vines that can sometimes be in your way at trail heads where I live.

Wow, it's exciting to see Riverwarrior's designs taking shape! That Cab-N-Muk is looking good! Thanks for posting progress photos, John! You do excellent work and I can't wait to see the finished knives!

BTW, I'm the owner of Cab-N-Muk #2.

Welcome, Brian! Stick around, we have fun here.

Thanks, John! I'm excited to see his designs taking shape! Can't wait to get my hands on it!

John,

I just completed the 8 hour drive from Kentucky back to Virginia. I walked in the door and OH MY GOODNESS.......there are pics of the "Muscat", "Mountaineer", and "Muks" all together!!!

I'm so excited that I think I just soiled myself...twice...:D

You Rock John...!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow I have some business to take care of, but I`ll be heat treating Saturday. I`ll probably start gluing liners to handle slabs early tomorrow so that will be out of the way.

I hope you don`get bored! Tomorrow is heat treat, which is 6 - 8 hours of nothing. Normally I make the sheaths during this downtime, but since these are all new designs I don`t have patterns for them, so will have to wait untill they are all handled and done before making the sheaths.

John,

Does that mean that I can remove the "Porta-Potty" beside my computer desk? I just didn't want to be away too long and miss the next picture.......:D:D

Have a great weekend!
Marc

I`m surprised jds1 has not asked about what that is in the background of the last pic.
