I know this is a long shot but it's not for me. here's the back story- There is a creek that runs along the front of my father's property. It was full of trees and almost completely blocked his house from the road. Earlier this year the county decided to dredge the ditch out to stop it from backing up and overflowing ( even though the problem area wasn't his property- his property is one of the widest, if not the widest, and deepest sections). Anyway, they cut every single tree down and now he's exposed to the road. the only good thing that came out of it is that they left the wood so he now has at least 5 winters worth of firewood. he spent a little money and put a woodstove in his basement. I went over there yesterday and he was s plitting wood. I happen to have my bk9 with me so I grabbed a 9" diameter log and put the blade up to it, ready to baton it. he said you will never split that with that knife. 4 whacks of a baton later and I was through. he was shocked he fondled the knife and asked if I thought it would be better for kindling than a hatchet-I told him I think it's safer than swinging a hatchet, especially at his age. so that brings me to my quest-I am looking for a large chopper for him ( like a bk9) I would just but him one, but I can't afford to. I would just give him mine but it was given to me by a fellow bf member and the only stipulation was I keep it forever (its a rare desert tan Camillus bk91 that he gave me to put wood handles in that my grandpa made for me before he for sick. I've been thinking about how I can get one for my dad since he does do much for me. then I found this thread and think it might be the answer to my prayers. so I grabbed a few things I don't use that mean something to me and posted them forward in hopes that someone can pay it forward for my pops. thanks for reading this novel.

I get paid on Monday. PM me the address and I will order a new one and send it your way.

I too aould like the opinion of a seasoned machete wielder..... no pm though feel free to email if you can.

Start with a Tramontina Latin or Bolo pattern. Start in the 14-20" range. I think 18" is a typical size. You'll never pay for a more expensive machete again without comparing it unfavorably to your Tram. Btw, Imacasa makes the blades for Condor, the ESEE Light Machete, and I think even Marbles. They put their own flavor on them but in the end Tramontina and Imacasa are the ones to beat. There's a certain specialist site about machetes that offers packs of Trams, however 42Blades will customize your machete the way you see fit for a small fee. His site is below:

Well folks, I will offer up a Kershaw Volt ss. All you need to do to have it is answer a simple Kershaw trivia question. What was the first speedsafe model released? Answer needs to include name of knife, model # and release year. First correct PM will get it. Good luck folks.

Speaking of sharpening, I'd be willing to build (2) Stropes loaded with green rouge if there is interest. Now don't get too excited, as they are not the fancy oak varnished type, think more scrap construction wood type. Function is just the same however. Sized to fit whatever is in my woodpile and what shipping container I find, either a Small Flat Rate box, or a bit larger if the envelopes don't end up too heavy. Strop will be plenty large enough to use.

Let's let these go to first (2) to respond that have at least 500 posts outside this thread OR have already contributed.

Daaaaaang Nikki...nice :)
This is the first time in my life I've had a job that affords me enough money to have a little extra. There have been a lot of people in my life that have been very generous and kept me from being homeless. Least I can do is help someone else n need. Just strip the crappy coating when it comes in.

Hey, I wouldn't mind a loaded strop. Just let me know. I use sandpaper backs loaded with Mother's Paste. Something legit would be a change.

Agreed. The Tram Bolo was my first machete. The test subject for my new belt sander, the beater that I dug in the dirt with, and sparked off rocks (not intentionally), and made my first cardboard sheath for. It's still around, and is now my loaner, but it's still chugging along, waiting for the next dirty job. I also like my Condor golok for heavier stuff, like chopping and batonning. Has a great balance, and is seriously thick with a nice taper to give the tip some decent speed when needed. It's now my primary car-camping machete. And finally, I have a nice little Ontario 12", with custom micarta handles and Scott Gossman convex, that is my backpacking machete. But you absolutely will not go wrong with Tramontina. Get the Bolo. Trust me.

I believe it was the Random Task. Model 1510. In 1998. Correct?
