The Medford USMC Fighter Flipper is Misunderstood

Reminds me of this.

Lol, I like that!

I see an On Belay, 187 and TFF all at $300 on the secondary market right now. I feel sorry for the bull that run's into one of those. They look really thick, but I was amazed at how thin the edges got of all the knives I handled at the store. Even the beefiest beefcakes got into PM2 territory behind the edge.
How's the tip thickness on the usmc? On the 187 I had the thin, shallow hollow grind made the tip so dainty . I wish that Greg would switch to grinding his knives more like the strider .

I've got a 187 DP en route. But, its 3V.
The tip should be gtg i would imagine.

Might have to look around on the secondary market for a good user. Probably more in my price range if its a bit rough in the looks department, but still fine as far as functionality.
I got my Medford 187f (flipper) from arizonacustomknives a secondary seller. Best flipper of all my knives and I didn’t have to spend premium money.

How do you find they cut? I know when sharp they will slice paper and such. With the stock so thick though, do you find they bind up or cut poorly through thick medium? It seems they wouldn't work great but perhaps im wrong.

Check out that video of the Marauder vs the PM 2 cutting thru tires........

So, everything Kyle said, I agree.
The USMC Fighter Flipper is outstanding imo.
And, it is the hardest to unlock, lol.
Btw, Kyle, did yours ever loosen up on the unlocking part?
At any rate, I finally found one for myself.
A Van Gogh Starry Night with a Satin Finish CPM-3V blade.....This is a great match for my MKT TFF - Fat Daddy. One other thing thats noteworthy, is this blade is just super sharp too.

This one has tempted me as well even though I have zero use for a knife like this. Just something about it. Not going to drop $700+ though. I did get a Proxima which approaches this size and not quite as battle ready looking. Really enjoy my 187DP and glad I revisited Medfords again

As far as pricing goes for MKT, the Proxima is a great value. Although, I feel the real sweet spot is the 187 DP - in particular, the DLT Exclusive in CPM-3V.
Btw, the Proxima can reach $700+ pretty easily.

For the price of one of these, you could outfit an entire platoon of Marines with real Kabars... To be honest, I dont see the attraction here. However, Im not a Medford kind of guy, I get by fine with old fashioned slipjoints so I dont think Im the target audience for Medford ;).
Why not just carry a fixed blade? You can get a really great belt knife for cheaper that will be tougher and cut better (for the same weight!) that will be much comfier to carry... I guess if you dont "get it", you wont get it.
I love that starry night finish though, thats super unique and pretty.:)

So far all of mine were bought on the secondary market so I paid far less than retail. The Flipper Fighter still commands a hefty price used so not one I will likely see any time soon.
I agree the entire 187 series are the best value Medfords. Several lengths, G10 and full Ti models, several lengths and configurations and even new, "reasonably" priced.
Just added a 187 RMP Vulcan to the hoard last night

Medford knives don't do anything for me at all. Just not my style.

However, the USMC fighter, while also clearly not my style, is a pretty cool-looking knife. I want to not like it but I can't help myself. It's pretty cool :)
